Holy moly it's been a while since I did a news post. Lost of stuff to cover over the past month. So lets get started. First is E3. Did a comic for it about a week back expressing my opinion. If you missed the goings on here's a pretty good recap.
Sony put out an alright conference, Microsoft was abysmal, and this guy at Ubi... I've never seen anything so awkward. He made for a good remix though. Nintendo's WiiU really stole the show. The specs are over here if you haven't read about them yet. I'm pumped!
Two other note worthy games I'm excited for are Zelda Skyward Sword and Star Wars The Old Republic.
Another thing I wanted to talk about is LA Noire.
Didn't really live up to my expectations but I did enjoy it but, not really as a game. You very much feel like you're placed in a gritty crime drama. The writing and acting really help bring the experience to life. My main problem with the game is that I could probably get the same feeling from just watching a video walkthough. Too much of it is hand holding. Events, choices, and interview results just don't have any impact on the overall story.
I would normally say rental but, this is a LONG game. If a fun story is something that interests you than by all means pick it up. It is a decent buy in that respect. Just don't expect the same type of game as Grand Theft Auto.
I'll have some new Super Effectives up shortly. I want to get a few strips done so this next boring bit of the story goes by quickly with regular updates. I've got the first two done. Just working on the third. Stay tuned!
Well that was quick. Someone already did an audio version of the comic. Great job guys.
Now on to Portal 2, loved it. An improvement on the first in just about every way. It's MUCH longer, new puzzles involving gels, brand new co-op feature, and spectacular writing. I don't think I've ever laughed so much at anything in quite a while as I did with this. Steven Merchant and J.K. Simmons were a treat to listen to the whole way through.
TLDR; Sony fucked up... BIG time. I honestly can't be live they'd do something that stupid but, there it is. I liked it better when it was just an outage.
I'll have more of a newspost tomorrow. Just wanted to get this comic up while it was relevant and forgot to sleep in the process. Nap time.
If you don't watch the new My Little Pony series, you really should. The show is by the same people behind Power Puff Girls and Fosters, so if you enjoy those I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this. Equestria Daily is a good place to start.
Put up a new VGC the other day. I just generally don't get systems on launch day anymore. Combination of not much to play on said system at the time, knowing the price will drop or a new version will release, and SO many other games I should be playing. Not that I don't love this system of course
Been updating Super Effective regularly for the past month or so now. Not always a news update though. Been out of town on family matters for a bit. So we've got a new one here, here, and here!
I'm glad most of Super Effective is pre-scripted. Hadn't really been ina comic making mood. Went for a bout a week with quite literally no sleep. I remember coming back home and sleeping/crashing for a while, and then waking up to the realization, "Huh. I guess I haven't had a dream all week. That's probably super bad." Been just catching up on sleep and drawing SE since. </whining>
Anyway though, I'm feeling better. Will try and work on a VGC this week. For now I do encourage you to give to relief efforts over in Japan. Google's got a page up with all the pertinent info.
A few other videos to check out: A brand new AWESOME video from Egoraptor, "Awesome Chaotix". Never played the game myself but I love it for the animation alone. Now, open that door and get on the floor because it's time TO WALK THE DINOSUAR. Lastly if you're in Winnipeg, get some cats!
Valve is one of the smartest companies ever. Seriously. To arrange a treasure hunt in which you collect achievements from games you'd buy on daily steam sales. Then to require you to create a wishlist of at least 10 games you'd want to win as rewards for collecting those achievements. THEN to have a massive holiday sale that lets you know what games on your friend's newly created wishlist are on sale. Just wow.
You have to love the diabolicalness (and massive sales) of it all. Buying TF2 items is still bullshit though. Ah well. Have some Duke!
For now there are two free games to check out and kill some time.
First is an indie game called Octodad(trailer here). Basically you're an octopus trying to pass as a human. It's got an interesting control scheme and definitely worth a look. The other game is one of the most depressing games I've ever played in my life, One Chance. Like Kongregate's game, You Only Live Once, you've only got one shot to play it through. (That is of course if you don't know about this!)
Put up a new comic yesterday. Just to clarify, I do actually love both DS9 and TNG (and Voyager). I just like writing comics where it's the two of them talking. Simple as that. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Also did you know yesterday was Cyber Monday? Nope? Me either!
So instead we've got a 5% off sale running the whole week at the store. Just use cupon code "want2cyber" As well we've got some new shirts! Broseidon God of the Brocean and MissingNo! We've also got some of the older designs on hoodies. Bitch be Trippin' Balls, Bloody Lies, and the very popular glow in the dark Boo.
Just a note. The Glow in the dark Boos have been extended until December but, after that they'll be gone.
Bleh, bad week. Gonna try and get a new VGC up as soon as I can. For now, New Super Effective!
Also
Rockstar's new game "L.A. Noire" is looking pretty awesome. Of course this is all cutscenes (which are spectacularly animated) but damn, I'm a sucker for detective stories. Shut up and take my money.
Just when I'm getting into updating again.... BAM. Flu. Really laid me out on my ass for a bit. I honestly haven't felt so bad since I was in 6th grade. Colds come and go but this was like some kind of darkspawn.
New comic! So Dead Rising 2 is pretty damn great. I don't often get to the story but, just fucking around by yourself or someone else is just a lot of fun. The DLC (Case Zero) is also a very good buy and I'm sure the upcoming DLC (Case West) will be too. I wouldn't go so far as to buy this collectors edition though. However this jacket is fucking awesome.
Speaking of Zombies the new L4D2 DLC, The Sacrifice, is out (and comic). I must say it's FAR better than the last DLC, The Passing. Maybe it's just the fact that you're playing with the old team. I dunno, have some K-ON L4D.
Also here's a free game to kill some time on. Realm of the Mad God, a web-based top down action RPG. That is if you can't play one of the MANY games out right now. Two notables releasing later this month; Fable 3 and Fallout New Vegas.
Check back Wednesday for a new Super Effective (finally).
Ever say you'll make a news post but, instead you try and finish a comic before you have to pack up your computer in a box? No? Well that happened. Tried to get a comic done for Monday before I moved. DID NOT WORK. Ah well. Finally had a chance to finish it tonight. Enjoy!
Oh shit, another Super Effective. Gonna set aside some time this week to get a new VGCats done as well. Just building up a nice buffer with Super Effective strips.
First is the brand new Bio Shock Infinite trailer. THIS is what Bioshock 2 should have been. Can't wait. Second, think you can't make a 2D side scroller out of Starcraft 2? Guess again! A Metal Slug map for Starcraft. Lastly a neat little name that videogame quiz, Geek Mind. The dictionary for accepted names is a little wonky but, still fun.
It's finally out, Starcraft 2. Been waiting to play this for a good decade now. I guess I can wait one weekend more. Letcha know what I think of it after that.
Speaking of which I'll be down at Otakon this weekend in Baltimore Maryland. You can find me in the dealers room at booth #706. Won't know until I'm down there if I'm on their live cam or not. Also sorry about the break, took some personal time off. For now though there's a new Super Effective. :)
Quite possible one of the most visually pleasing episodes of Red vs Blue ever. You might recognize the animation from good ol' montyoum of Haloid fame. I do love his work so. (Courtesy of Halolz)
Not even to mention the technical problems that might occur. I exagerate for comedy sake but, there's probably a reason the majority of waht you saw at E3 was prerecorded and not a live demo.
However the heart of it really is Kinect seriously lacking in the software department. At least with Move for PS3 they've got support for REAL games in addition to the shovelware. Feels weird praising Playstation 3 but, it's deserved. We'll see I guess.
Ah well, time to work on Super Effective.
Also that Earthquake was awesome! Never experienced one before. Much less scary than tornadoes.
Been a bit since my last news post so lets go over some of the MANY things that have happened in the past month. Namely E3.
I'm really glad to see each E3 progressively getting better ever since it went bust a few years back. The highlight for this show being Nintnedo by FAR. Who by all accounts stole the show this year with many great games.
First and foremost with their new handheld system the 3DS. I must make a note on this for clarity sake. This is not an update on the DS. Far too much separates it from the DS to be filled under the same family. You can check out all the specs over here but, suffice it to say this thing is a beast.
Last con this month and finally I can get back to updating. Anime North down in Toronto. Panel today with Lar and tomorrow by my lonesome. I'll have the last bit of this printing run of Super Effective books. Getting while you can!
The month of cons! WOO! Anyhoo, I'll be in Calgary this weekend for a meet and greet at Otafest. This will be the only time I'll be out in Calgary so be sure to stop by! Will I also have some Super Effective books? Who knows! (The answer is yes.)
Going to be down at Acen this weekend in Rosemont near Chicogo. We'll also be giving out a special shiney legendary Pokemon for those who want them. So come down to Artist Alley and check us out!
Oh and lets not forget The Passing came out for L4D2. I don't mind the excuse to go back and play this game. Too bad for Bill though. It also sports a weekly Multiplayer variation "Mutation". In fact, one of them got picked up into a permanent feature.
Lastly
if you haven't had a chance to check out this charity event, please do. It's basically pay whatever you want for a bundle of indie games. Worth it for World of Goo alone. Also an unrelated note but, while you're picking up those game you should also probably get portal. Since you know, it's FREE. Free is awesome.
Last LAST thing to check out this flash game is a must to try out, Super Mario Bros. Crossover. Go through Super Mario Bros 1 with Megaman, Link, Samus, Contra Guy, or Simon Belmont! Mega fun.
New VG Cats and a new Super Effective. Been out and about visiting family and what not. So the comic ended up being drawn an hour here, and an hour there over 2 weeks. The result being a me being very displeased with how it turned out. As I never really got the time to properly script it. I already axed the comic that I was working previously so I thought I might as well finish this one. Oh well I guess. Better an "okay" strip than no strip! :)
Also it turns out my email has been down while I was away too. If you've emailed me over the past month, I've not recived it. Very sorry about that.
Lets just head off those "What the hell is this comic about?" emails now. It's Minecraft. A fun little java game I've been playing for a few weeks. The full survival mode does cost to play but it's also got some free modes. A basic survival mode, creative mode, and multiplayer mode(creative mode with people). I'd suggest trying out these modes before buying.
Indev is the mode you pay for and it's still very much under construction. It's also very addicting... Being the full survival mode the landscape is constantly rotating between night and day. During the day everything is peaceful but at night? Zombies, archer skeletons, spiders, and of course creepers.
No real point to the game other than to survive and be creative with the resources you find. Simple but awesome.
I think the real reason I enjoy it so much though is because I used to always play with Lego as a kid. This just kinda brings that experience to life.
I'll try not to go on too long but, I really have to express the total enjoyment I got from Mass Effect 2. It takes place about two years after the events in the first. Shepard gets killed and brought back. You're working for Cerberus now and fighting the collectors. From there you're treated to some 40 hours of gameplay and just plain fun.
Lets talk positives. Almost all the complaints from the first game were addressed in ME2. The clunky item system is GONE and replaced with weapon load-outs and upgrades. Also axed is the hated Mako. Instead what you get are a variety of missions on lot of different worlds. Where each mission actually feels different from the last. Brought to you with a cinematic feel the first game was sorely lacking.
The gameplay feels a LOT tighter from the first. More robust Gears of War style cover and flank system. With the trimmed down skill tree you're no longer worrying if your electronics skill will open that box. Instead everything is focused on combat. Tactics are a huge part of fighting this time around. As well your character class plays a bigger role than the first. With each having a particular skill that sets them apart from the other.
The Bad? Planet scanning. Tedious to the extreme. Moving your mouse over a planet looking for minerals is as exciting as it sounds. You know what though? Who cares. Everything else about this game is so good I'm willing to over look any of the bad.
Though the biggest draw back to this game is that you really do need to play the first one to enjoy it. I mean you can play it without playing the first but, you're missing so much. Aside from that this game has better characters, better story, and just better everything. I highly recommend picking it up. (And maybe cheat your way through the first one.)
Finally done. I know it's a while after Christmas but I really wanted to get this thing finished. Planned to get this comic done last year but found I didn't have the time. I just didn't know HOW much time it would actually take me. A few of the images in the background are from here and here. Now I can get back to updating Super Effevtive. :P
So I started working on the comic a little over two weeks ago. Took two days off for Christmas and another for fixing a broke car but, the rest I'vebeendrawing. Nothing like working on a Christmas comic AFTER Christmas. Oh well, still working at it but it should be done soon.
For now the great people who do the audio adaptation of VG Cats did an awesome holiday themed Episode. Check it out!
Lets take a little wrap up of what I felt were the best and worst of 2009.
Best God Damn Game of the year: Batman Arkham Asylum. Not only was this the first great Batman game but, it was also a fantastic game on it's own with a sequel on the way. Multi platform as well so there's really no excuse not to play the god damn Batman. (Runners up: Left 4 Dead 2, Prototype.)
Best God Damn Adventure Game: Tales of Monkey Island. Gets better every chapter. (Runners up: Brutal Legends)
Best God Damn Content Delivery : Steam. The deals man, the deals. Hell Team Fortress was $2 at one point. It's really hard for me to actually buy a PC game in the box anymore. (Runners up:No one.)
Shortest God Damn Full Price Game: Halo ODST. Multiplayer was fun for a bit but damn the story mode was it short. After the last fight I could help but think, "Wait, that was the end? Really?". (Runners up: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2)
Biggest Disappointments:Turtles in Time : Reshelled. The most visually confusing game I've ever played. Though Ghost busters was close. Not sure why it didn't go the the Street Fighter HD route and simply updated the graphics. Instead it butchered a classic. (Runner up: Scribblenauts, Ghostbusters.)
"What's going on here? Why it's our fourth annual Webcomic Holiday Postcard Fundraiser!
A whole bunch of webcomic artists have teamed up to bring you a set of classy holiday themed postcards!
Our secret ulterior motive? By purchasing any of our holiday themed postcard sets, you'll actually be donating to Child's Play, a charity that collects toys and donations for sick children each holiday season!"
-Shawn
So getting back to L4D2. I've been waiting on this game with eager anticipation for months now. I'm glad to see it did not disappoint in any way. The improvements on this game first are really so drastic that I can't see myself ever going back. The best comparison I can think of is Halo to Halo 2.
The main area of improvement I think is in verses play. The scoring system has been revamp to reflect progress rather than health (unless it's a tie breaker). This has lead to more balanced matches. Where a team who was losing can still win, even late in the game. This has helped a LOT in rage quitting. Will it ever solve the problem completely? No, people can still be dumbasses. That a problem bigger than Valve.
As well the new infected work to solve a lot of the annoyances of the past. Usually in any kind of frantic activity (Horde, crescendo, etc...) the survivors will take to a corner to ride it out. You do so at great risk now from spitter loogies and charger rams. Forcing people to actually play the game the way it was meant to be.
With five long campaigns, tons of new weapons and power ups, and all of these improvements I can't NOT recommend this game. Hats off to Valve for an awesome sequel.
On Sunday I was like "Yeah I totally have enough time to get this done in time for tomorrow. Hell, I'll even get a Super Effective done." Yeah, that took a little longer. Anyway new comic. I'm going to get some sleep.
Edit: Dave: No sleep! Post the Shirts!
Scott: Bleargh!
I officially give up on working on that Halloween thing for right now. Even if it gets done, it'll be Christmas. I'm NOT releasing that on Christmas. It'll be done when it's done. Gonna start just working on regular comics tonight. At least Super Effective has been getting updates. Speaking of which.
I really do apologize for not having a VGCats up this week. Had a Scribblenauts strip done that just didn't work out at all. So I scrapped it. THEN MOPED. EMO IS THY NAME. Seriously though I might have been distracted by Brutal Legends as well. Anyway! Working on something special for Halloween though so stay tuned! For now here's a New Super Effective.
The show must go on. We had a pre-order running for most of October at Shark Robot for these new shirts. Leave it to me to post them the day the pre-order ends. So pick 'em up while you can! Personally I'm keeping a Tunnel Snakes shirt for myself.
Just a heads up for all of you who like free stuff. In honor of talk like a pirate day TellTale is GIVING AWAY the first episode of Tales of Monkey Island. This available for today and today only. I highly urge you to try it if you haven't already.
If you're looking for another free game to kill some time on, here's Canabalt. See how far you can get on a randomly generated escape scene. Two little video's for ya too; a fan made Meet the Pyro and The Cat Piano.
Also a word on Scribblenauts. Been playing it for all of a day now and I gotta agree with Scott, the novelty wore off. Fun as all hell to begin with but it does get very repetitive (Wings, black hole, wings, black hole, etc...). Hard to believe in a game geared for creativity. I do recommend you give it a try though. Technically speaking it's a masterpiece. I just didn't enjoy it for as long as I thought I would.
I understand this item removal affected a vast amount of active players. I get that you're mad. You feel cheated, insulted, and demonized. Here's the thing though. You're getting angry over fictitious items in a videogame. In a videogame. Play it and have fun.
Sorry if I came off a little strong but after watching Shawn idle for months, only to result in this. I took a pleasure in it. A LOT. I'm an asshole, it's what I do.
So team Fortress came out with these hats a while ago. They drop randomly while you play the game. The chance of getting one is quite rare. So naturally people used Idlers to cheat their way to a hat. Playing without actually playing.
Now there are also people who lost items obtained legitimately. Simply because they tried out the bot once. Unfair? Maybe but, using the Idler is a violation of your ToS any way you look at it. In anycase, I made a new spray for the occasion, get it here.
Kinda have to see the movie (Inglourious Basterds) to get this one. Which I totally recomend doing. It was fucking awesome. Sorry I missed last week. Was a little short on time to myself.
Here's a short comic after last week's LONG one. Been meaning to use this comic for like two years now. Ah well. Also the video below is very much worth a watch. It's a fan made adaptation of the comics.
New comic, it was really just an excuse to make as many puns as I can. In all I'm not happy with how it turned out. Might just delete it come next week, we'll see.
My God was I ever tired when I got back. I forgot it was a long weekend and we ended up getting really stuck at the boarder. Traffic was backed up for miles. Drive a foot, break, park, wait for 10 minutes, repeat. Thanks to everyone who came though!
Anyway! Couple of things L4D to mention. First is a brand new campaign announced for it. Crash Course, details over here. As well an amazing fan made campaign released, Heaven Can Wait. It's the first fan made map to have a (make-shift) gauntlet event.
And if you feel like expressing your L4D love with a shirt, the guys at Halolz have this Peelz shirt.
Hey guess what! It's time for ConnectiCon! I've always enjoyed going to this con and you'd really be silly not to go this year. Tons of new comic guests this time around that are usually west cost. Wasted Talent, Starslip Crisis, and everythingKC Green to name a few. Karian and I will be down there as well. So stop on by, it's always a fun time
Oh, and to preempt the question. Monday's comic IS done. It'll be up on time even if the main page button doesn't reflect it. Just go here when Monday comes.
Update on a Monday? FANCY THAT. I'll put "Updated Mondays" Back in the title bar when I can keep this up. For now, enjoy. (Yes she really does look like that)
A word about the new Monkey Island games that are now out.
First is Tales of Monkey Island: Launch Of The Screaming Narwhal. This first episode is a great start to the series. It perfectly captures the feel of the previous games and creates something new. One urk I had was the control scheme. I HIGHLY recommend you use the keyboard (WASD) to move Guybrush. The mouse controls are ungodly bad. That aside I am very much looking forward to the new episodes (with Murry).
Second is Monkey Island : Special Edition out on XBLA and Steam. I've always loved this series but it is hard to get people into it considering the first game is so old. The solution? This game. In addition to the new art the game is also entirely voiced and, voiced VERY well. If that isn't your cup of tea you can always switch to the old version on the fly. It's a game for everyone really with humor that still stands up to this day.
Edit: Well I'm sick to my stomach from lack of sleep but the comic is up. Enjoy.
So I can't really tell days right now but I've been awake for 24 hours, sleeping for 8 hours, and now awake for 24 again. It was when I was fixing myself a snack and poured cereal into a cup that it occurred to me, I should stop working and go sleep.
Comic up Tuesday. I'd love to have it up today but I need to go pass out for a bit. On the plus side visually it's turning out really nice. In the mean while here, enjoy this.
Well E3 was a good few weeks back but I completely missed it. Lets just recap a few highlights from what was a far better show than last year.
First off is L4D2. From what I've read I can't freaking wait for it. Fortunately we finally have the SDK to tide us over. Tons of new maps to chose from right now.
My particular favorite at the moment is Death Abroad. Gimmie a shout if you've got the vpk installed. We're always looking for people to play with.
This piece of news made me squeal like a school girl. Tales of Monkey Island. A brand new monkey island adventure. My mancrush with Telltale Games grows ever bigger. As well we're getting classic Monkey Island games remade on PC and XBL. Feels good man.
There was also Metroid the Other M from Nintendo. A shining piece of gaming in an otherwise crapfest of a press conference. Developed by Team Ninja which means Samus is getting some jiggle physics.
In a bit of ACTUAL news there's this. Korean game called H.A.V.E. Online, it's basically TF2 with anime dolls. Yeah... I'd play it in a heartbeat. Also have some Robot Fighting Geisha.
Yeah I'm done missing updates. Back on schedule starting now. To help that along here's an awesome guest comic from the guys at GG Guys. (Thanks guys!) As well as a new Super Effective.
Gonna be at Anime North in Toronto this weekend. You can catch my Panel on Saturday at 3pm in Panel Room 1. Finish up the comic on the panel I guess. Come one come all
Also "GAMER" coming this summer to a theater near you. I shit you not.
A word about Plants vs Zombies. I was a little skeptical going into this game and boy was I wrong.
It's your basic Tower Defense game but here's the twist... It's actually fun. Keeps you from getting bored with by introducing new units and modes of play. When I say new modes of I mean a LOT of them. The amount unlockables and mini-games in this package is staggering. As well clever writing and visuals just bring the whole experience together.
Edit: You know the more I think about this video getting leaked, the more I think we got trolled by Valve. I mean it is the SPY video after all. What better way to release it
Well crap. So much to prepare for before a Con and this comic is taking ages to finish. Probably not going to be time to work on it again until Wednesday... Next week... When I get back. I suck hardcore, sorry.
BUT YEAH! Driving (10 hours woo!) down to Illinois this weekend for Anime Central. Come down if you're in the area. Not sure if I'll be back in the area so it's now or never.
Got the comic all sketched out finally and moving on to inking. Gonna try and get it up tonight (that's what she said?). For now here are a few neat links to check out.
I FINALLY got to seeing this series after everyone was telling me how good it was. Glad to say it really is. The high school stuff makes me cringe at times but the series is really quite awesome. Give it a watch.
The horror... The horror... A side note; I meant to do this comic about 5 months ago. While moving I lost the script and have been piecing it back together. Ah well.
Also uploaded it with missing text just now, since corrected. So if you're one of those folks who check the RSS beforehand you might wanna re-read it.
Working on a new comic right now. For now got a Super Effective up. I just got in a HUGE fucking block with that strip for a while. Still was but I just said "Fuck it", it needed an update. On the plus side the next stip is done and the next 10 strips are scripted.
Edit Tuesday, April 21, 2009: Oh yeah there was a new Super Effective updated on Saturday. Keep forgetting to mention it here. New comic should be up later today. Tomorrow, taking forever to finish...
So Watchmen was awesome, so awesome. It is missing a lot of the narrative of the comic but it's a really long comic. So you have to cut it some slack. Even at 3 hours long there's no way you're fitting it in there.
What you do have is every scene you loved faithfully receated and true to the source material. A word of warning though if you've never read the book. This film really is a companion to the comic and if you're unfamiliar, you won't appreciate it near as much. So please do give it a read. For everyone else, GO SEE IT.
Now to find where the hell we packed our copy so I can read it again. Oh and here's the opening sequence to the movie for those who have seen it.
Contest time! Valkyrie Profile DS is coming out this month so we're all running a little contest for one lucky person to win some awesome stuff. Stuff being a signed copy of the game from the guys who made it, sound track, and a signed poster. Deatails about entering over here.
Enjoy some filler today while I get a comic drawn up for Monday (hopefully).
Edit: Yes, versus not verses. A typo made at five in the bloody morning. I might have been a tad sleepy. Since been fixed.
Woo! A new comic. Sorry it's not shaded but I wanted it to be up before I passed the fuck out. Probably will after some sleep. For you youngin's who never saw the Street Fighter movie, here it is.
I've been getting into a bad habbit of scrapping comics I don't like. Figured it can't be the best every time, and I really should just upload them instead. But yeah. That's the delay. Perfectionism neuroses. Aka Whiney and Emo.
Also a fun little game to try out, Don't Shit Your Pants. It's done in the style of the first generation Sierra Adventure Games.
You know, where you have to type in every damn thing. Can you get all the achievents!? (Thanks to Teddy)
New Super Effective, for reels. I have the next one drawn too so that'll be up later this week.
So I hear ComiCon is this weekend (February 6-8). Karian and I will be down there sharing a booth with Shawn. I think we're in the same location as last year but I could be wrong. Lots of other people will be down there too; Penny Arcade, Mystic Revolution, and Snafu to name a few.
New Super Effective Removed due to shittiness.
Few things to check out gaming wise right now.
The fine lad over at Konjak made this one level wonder called, Legend of Princess. Kind of a what if Zelda was an action sidescroller. Like Zelda II on steroids. It's a free download and I highly recommend getting it. If you like it I strongly urge you to also buyNoitu Love 2. Plays just like it and quite entertaining.
Now on the Xbawks. First is the RE5 Demo is now out. It is awesome. Every game can only be made better by co-op. So you take the gameplay of RE4. Which was one of my favorite games of all time. Then add co-op? Well you've got something you HAVE to play. Go get it.
As well the FEAR 2 demo is out. From the demo I love the direction they're taking with it. Problem I had with the first game is that a lot of it was kinda boring. Lots of flickery lights and not much action until towards the end. This one never stops the action. Plus now you've got these giant mechs you can pilot. Looks really fun.
As well I finally got around to downloading Banjo-Kazooie from the XBL arcade. Classic Banjo with cleaner graphics, faster frame rate, and widescreen. A must get if you loved it on the N64. (Comparisons over here)
Haven't gotten a chance to play Operation Anchorage for Fallout. I will though, oh I will. Fallout 3 was easily my favorite game for 2008. With Brawl at a close second. So I will be getting to this at some point. The Chinese Power armor is just sexy.
So this is a conversation between me and dave a few months ago.
Tue Aug 19 17:25:33 2008
[17:38] Dave: do a Dead Rising Wii comic
[17:38] Scott: yeah

[17:38] Dave: then second panel, empty mall
[17:38] Dave: with him saying "hello..?"
[17:38] Scott: NO CAMERA

[17:39] Scott: NO CAMERA
[17:39] Dave: or for effect
[17:39] Dave: he doesn't finish the first line
[17:39] Dave: just "i've covered wars you kn...."
[17:39] Dave: do it
So Dead Rising is coming out soon and I decide to do it. MEANWHILE AT FANBOYS. By the time I saw this I had the comic about halfway finished. We're gaming comics, this happens. Jokes pulled from the same pot. Still I hate it when it happens.
Forgot to mention last update a thanks to everyone who came down for Anime LA. Lots of fun. :) Also been getting requests for a wallpaper so here ya go!
Edit Wednesday, January 21, 2009 6:51 PM: Should have a comic up late Thursday. Thought I could get it today but I'm on like hour 26 and near collapse. Ah well... Oh hey VG Birds! (Source) and the Rand Savage L4D Mod. You can pick that up right over here. Lastly a new Trailer for Street Fighter 4. I know the dubbing and story can be a bit much but... I'm ashamed to say I actually like that.
Comic is up. Would have LOVED to get this up before christmas but it took way longer than I thought it would. I like how it turned out though even if it's not funny. I mean it's not like it has to be to funny to be enjoyable. On that note, enjoy!
Baaaaah!Plane leaves in like 2 hours and didn't get a comic done in time. Anyway! Bit of an odd time to be doing a con but got one in LA this weekend. Anime Los Angles Jan 2nd-4th.
In the mean time you might want to give this little indie game a try. Don't let the cute graphics fool you, because it's deceptivley awesome. Eversion!
Uploaded a New Super effective Yesterday. Gonna get some filler up today and I'll have a new comic up between now and Christmas. Sorry for the prolonged absents. I'd love to say moving back to Canada has been smooth but hey, things happen. Took more on my plate than I could eat I guess. ANYWAY. Back to comics. :)
Still working on a comic. Really sorry, just been trashing a lot of ideas. I'll have one up for Monday SOMEDAY no matter what. REALLY. Guess my word doesn't mean shit at this point. But I just don't like uploading bad comics.
Also I'll be down for the FFXI Fan event on Saturday. See ya there! Didn't have time to get anything ready to be sold but I'll be there doing sketches regardless.
Lastly this game, Auditorium. Friend of mine tossed me the link the other week. If you love games like Rez and Every Extended Extra you'll love this. Basically a puzzle game that uses music. Check it out!
Edit: Didn't get a VGC comic done but I did get a Super Effective done! Enjoy!
I think I just drew a Cat-Bear. New comic. Been a little hard on Nuts & Bolts but, after trying the demo I might have been very wrong. I'll pick it up and letcha know.
News post will follow after I get some sleep. For now, new Watchmen Trailer. I liked the first one better. Really not liking the dialog changes in the script. Makes Rorschach sound like a pussy. I'll still go see it though.
SO! Finally sorta half moved in and back in Canada. We spent a few days getting stuff out of storage and that's all that's here right now. More stuff on the way. Moving is exhausting. Oh yeah, NEW COMIC! The dog in Fable has a nose for SOMETHING. I'm not sure if it's treasure.
Thought I forgot about these? Well I did! Thanks for reminding me everyone. Got a few new ones done fir this year.
We got the last of the stuff here packed last night. Movers came and went this morning. SO pooped. Nothing left but a looooong drive tomorrow. Happy Halloween!
Edit: Fixed the defects in the Pokeball and Red design. If youy guys want to send those pumpkin pics in to me I can get it posted like I did last year. Thanks! :)
New super Effective! VGC will probably be delayed a bit this week. Depends if I have time to finish it. 25+ hour drive ahead of me, packing, etc.... So we'll see how it goes. Been just so busy getting stuff done for the move.
Here's a few from a really awesome animation studio (Talantis Films) I first heard about on Drawn. Pyrats,Jungle Jail, Hugh, Oracle, and VooDoo. I just love thier combination of 3D and 2D animation to tell a story.
(Edit:Whoops all done) What I wouldn't give to play Fable 2 right now. This guy over here is doing just that in a live stream. Give it a watch. He's been chopping wood for like 15 minutes now. Wood I tell you, WOOD. Also here's the first 10 minutes of Gameplay.
Can't freaking wait. Bad part is we're moving back to Canada the day it comes out. So I WILL wait. Because I have no other choice.
Oh yeah, New comic! Not to happy with the way the pacing turned out around the middle. Ah well. Sorry for the delay, took me all week. This is the LAST time I'm doing any more of this "arc". As in these last three comics.
Little note about those last two comics. Some people seem to think it's some kind of political stance. Nope. I draw what I think is funny. It's just a comic. It's not like I'm out there with a coat hanger. DURF.
Oh and a BIG thanks to Xyro for helping me work through the issue with Dreamweaver. Eventually found out it was a conflict with the Virus scanner. It seemed to think it needed INTENSIVE scanning. Thanks again!
Oh hey a new Super Effective! I miss when dreamweaver worked on this computer. Made updating a whole lot easier. Anyway! Here are a few things coming out of TGS and Blizcon this week.
Started as "Oh hey photoshop won't open".
Then ended in "Well there goes OS...".
So just dropped it off at Best Buy and let them
handle it after an exhausting day of me trying
to. Gonna finish it up on the laptop instead.
Just letting you know, slight delay.
Edit Tuesday Sept, 30th: Sorry for the no news posts. New OS on this computer and not everything is working; IE. Software for news posts. I'll try and find an alternative. Also you guys were a HUUUUGE help to xero. He was overwhelmed with the response. You guys ROCK, thanks a lot.:)
Few little news and review things to go over
today. In the news I couldn't be happier to
find out that Duke
Nukem 3D for XBL (coming out late this month)
is going to sport 8
player co-op. EIGHT. This game is going
to kick huge amounts off ass.
Uwe
Boll also has a game coming out to coincide
with his movie. Best thing I can think of
to discribe this is; confusingly
bad. Time is much better spent playing fun
stuff like this. Gang
Garrison II, it's a pixel version of TF2,
setup instead like a 2D platformer. Just expect
some unexpect server data
errors once and a while. I mean, it's a fan
project after all.
If you're a fan of One Piece and looking to
collect the series for yourself then I highly
recommend picking it up.
Now
you might remember a while ago I was talking
about the Sumo
Omni sack. Well I've had a chance to try
out their new Softer
version. Unlike the other one this can tear
as it's cloth. Thankfully it's double bagged.
Plus side though it's way the hell more comfy.
Seriously. It's been used as a bed when a lot
of people have been over.
Downside is that it takes up a bit more space. Larger
versions especially. If you've got the room
I'd recommend it above the Omni simply due to comfort. Which it's guaranteed
not to go flat. Six months into is so far it's
lived up to that for me. Be warned though...
If price is an issue. This
is expensive.
New
comic eh? Yeah... Might go back and shade
this when I'm not so bleeding tired. Been at
this one for a few days straight. Need a break
from the ol' computer. Hope ya like it.... It's
a long one.
Thanks to everyone who sent in a kind word or
two with the whole writers block thing. It really
helped. Thank you :)
I do apologize immensely for
not having any comics up. It's not like I haven't
been working over the past month on them either.
There are new comics.
Just not the main one. Of which I have been
drawing and scrapping (just
a few of them here). Even more are still
storyboards on the note pad. I've been very
reluctant to release any of them. I
just don't think the quality is there.
For now here's some awesome Deviant
Arts for you to enjoy.
The
Sessler is taking Charge of X-Play. Everything
good can come of this. I've been watching the
new episodes when I can since the format change.
It's still way too light on the reviews but
I'm glad to see the skits get axed.
Lastly Castle
Crashers is BEYOND good. Seriously. By far
the best Xbox Live game I've ever bought. So
much depth and replayability. There's some connection
issues right now but they're working on it and
should be fixed soon. Other than that. GET IT.
FUN.
Last
guest comic for the year I swear... but god
damn it's hilarious. Comes courtesy of Brian
Wilson over at his new comic Geist Panik.
Also a new Super
Effective. I've been drawing a few comics
over the past two weeks. Hated them all and
scrapped 'em. Just a little stressed right now
I think. Kills the funny. Probably use this
week to catch up for next Monday. Thanks Brian!
A little while ago I was talking about a custom
make your own Elite Beat Agent game. Using your
own MP3s and downloading tracks others have
made. Well this
one is WAY the hell better. It's called OSU! and it
works under the same idea as the other one but
it's far more streamlined. As well a ton
more songs. Theseare a few of myfavorites.
Check it out!
Also this
was a bout damn time. Can't think of how
many hours I'd play Nukem multiplayer. Even
made a shit ton of maps for it. Can't wait for
4 player co-op however.
I didn't die. New super
effective! Hate coming back with such
a week strip but whatever. Should have a new
VG Cats (thanks MayuZane)
this Monday. Con season is OVA for the summer.
So shouldn't be too many more delays. Here
a vid of the best thing to come out of this
years otakon.
Man...
13 hours of flying thanks to delays. Fun times!
Love to have a comic this week but time is
like nonexistent. We're honestly here for
two days and then we're off again. Last con
this year though! SPEAKING OF WHICH!
We'll
be down in Baltimore, Maryland this weekend
(August 8th - 10th) for Otakon.
Won't be as a guest since this is very last
minute. BUT! I will be down there signing
anything you give me and pedling shirts, posters,
badges, and plushies down in artist alley.
Not
leaving you without
content this week. Drew
this quick comic while down at Conneticon.
Karian
of course made like threewaybetter
comics. Do
read those. Thanks to everyone who came
down to see us this past weekend. I'll try
and have a Super Effective up later tonight.
Edit Monday, August 11, 2008 10:45 PM
: Just got back from Otakon. Sorry, no new
Super due to me getting really fucking sick.
It's why I wasn't shaking hands for Fri-Sat.
Didn't mean to be rude or anything but I just
didn't want to make anyone else that sick.
Thanks to everyone who came all the same!
:)
Dr
Horribles Sing-a-long Blog is finally
back online from limbo. They'll probably rotate
what episodes are online so watch it while
you can! You can still buy all of them on
iTunes and it's SO worth the watch. Funniest
thing I've seen all year. Plus it's got NPH
and Nathan
Fillion! Fuck yeah!
Lastly a new
Super Effective! Gonna try and draw a
new comic over the weekend. One I WAS doing
this week was no where near done. Holy heck.
Gonna need some time with it.
"Hey
folks! Just a quick note to let everyone know
that ZeStuff
is having an
incredible clearance sale right now. With
over 100 items being cleared out, there's
some pretty awesome deals in there. Here's
a list of things you will find:
* A bunch of t-shirt models starting at $7.95
* Books
* Card games (Hero Cards, World of Warcraft
TGC)
* Board games
* Warhammer, Warhammer 40k and Lord of the
Rings - Strategy Battle miniatures
* Plushies
* Toys
* Geek Apparel (duct tape wallets, diskette
handbag and more)
Of course, inventory is very limited and all
of this is on a first come, first served basis.
If this wasn't a good deal by itself, we're
also trying something new for the rest of
July. All orders shipping to Canada or USA
that are of or over $50 will get ground shipping
for only $5. So wait no more and check
it out today!"
Guess
who doesn't
see us as a market anymore. Yep. Animal
Crossing? That's it?... Really?
The thing is... They did something with
Wii that no other console has been able
to do. Bring in the mainstream in droves.
Now that's making more money than they ever
did with just us. So we've just stopped
being a priority.
Not my only gripe with this years E3. I
mean what a mind-blowing disappointment
this year's show was. Third party support
was the only highlight of the show. Everyone
else just didn't seem to give a shit. I
don't blame them though. This really
isn't the same E3 we saw a short 2 years
ago. After this one I couldn't see them
ever putting on another one. It
really is dead. Glad I got to be there
for the last one in '06.
Oh if anyone has emailed me over the past
week. It's been down. Working again now
but that's why I havn't responded. And this
is one Awesome
(face) shirt. Ah Shark
Robot.
Honestly
what were they thinking? Their stuff
from almost
a decade ago was better. Now I know
I'm one for missing a deadline, but, yikes
guys. Finish the fucking material or don't
show it at all. Of course this could just
be one massive TROLL sooo... Disregard.
Best game of E3!
Went for a Machall/TPS
look for this
weeks comic. Not sure if I'll do it
again though. HOLY FUCK did it take a while
to do. I like how it turned out though even
if the joke is a little lame. Now lets talk
the Vidja.
Lost
Winds. Very cute little title available
now on Nintendo's new WiiWare.
I'd rather see this as a DS title with a
stylus but it still works fairly well with
the Wiimote. It's a short game but if you're
looking for something to kill time with
it's nice. Same price as a Virtual Console
title (1000points) so it's not very expensive
and worth a download.
Bad
Company. Love this game. Single player
plays like Delta
Farce the game which can get on your
nerves at times but, gameplay totally makes
up for it. Multiplayer's where I've been
spending my time. Comes with a mode called
Gold Rush. A control point style game with
one team attacking and one defending. Only
a handful of maps but god damn is it fun.
Best thing I like about this game is nearly
EVERYTHING is destructible. The ground,
walls, trees, building, vehicles, organs.
Worth a pickup if you've got some people
online to play with.
GTA4.
If you're a fan of the series you really
don't need to read this. You've already
gone out, picked it up, played it, beat
it, and played it some more. For everyone
else though, here ya go.
The game is a lot more scaled back in character
customizability than previous versions.
For some this will be a huge draw back.
Not me though. I don't missed hitting the
L&R buttons endlessly in the Gym. What
this game does do is give you a fleshed
out, lifelike city for you to cause havoc
in. Single player will keep you busy for
a while and this is by far my most favorite
GTA story to date. Full city multiplayer
will be there when you're done with that.
Just like the classic games on the PC.
Biggest complaint are the amount of chase
mission in single player. You'll learn to
hate them but, the game does so much more,
so very good you can overlook any negative
aspects. GET IT.
I really do apologize for
the down time of the comic. I don't mean
for Cons to take away from the site but
there's a shit ton of effort that goes into
every one. Before, during, and after...
So when I say I'm tired, I am very honestly
exhausted. Big thanks to everyone
who keeps on reading or who sends in a kind
word. It will pick up in the fall I promise.
EMO
SCOTT ASIDE! I did a quick guest
comic for Dave over at Snafu. It comes
from when we were all sharing a booth. Happens
every time. No, he is not Bleedman. (But
you should ask him anyway)
Also
here's a wallpaper verison of that Pikachu
Filler. 800,
1024,
1280,
1360
(wide).
As per request.
Finally my favorite Gurren
Lagann Parallel Works 1, 2,
3,
and 4.
Reimagining of the gurren lagann universe
in small shorts. Super awesome. Definitely
worth a watch if you're a fan.
Got a guest comic today
from Chris at Digital
Unrest! Four Day con has me POOOOOOPED.
So news post a little later. Thanks to everyone
who came! I'm going to sleep now! Exclamation
point!
We'll be down at Ainme Expo this weekend.
Haven't been down there since E3 so it'll
be nice to go again. Since E3 wasn't really
a place that's easy to meet up. That being
said we'll be down in the Exhibitor hall.
So come on down and say hi! We'll be there
for most if not all days.
Sorry
about the filler art but I'm sure you're
tired of excuses... So I won't! :D just
enjoy Cloverfield Pikachu. Also this:
Decided to put this one
up early since I didn't do a comic last
week. Enjoy!
The cellphone is one of those to
nitpick but it's also an ingenious addition
to the gameplay. One thing I've always found
myself doing in GTA games is eventually
getting bored and turning it off. Not be
cause the game is bad, no way. No I get
lost having fun in that giant world they
give you.
Consequently I never get around to going
about the main games story. What the cellphone
does now is keep you engaged in the games
experience. While being a bit annoying it
also keeps you playing the game. It offers
side quests, minigames, story events, and
EVERYTHING else. So you take the bad with
the good, my cousin.
Edit 6/16/08 7:28 AM: Reader pointed
me over to this
GTA4 video on Newgrounds. Hilarious.
Though I didn't know you could cheat in
the game. I wouldn't want to fuck with my
achievements however.
Big thanks to these guys (and
girl) for the guest comics. As well the
Fan page has also been updated. With some
super awesome Rat
Flail art. I should have a comic up for
Monday. FUN FACT! I've actually drawn two comics
this week but I was really not happy with them.
So I'll hold on to 'em. I am with the next one
I'm drawing though. So Monday for sure. For
now a new Super Effective!
Oh and the new
Penny Arcade game is out if you haven't
heard by now. I'll letcha know how it is after
some more time with it. So far so very, very
funny.
Edit 06/12/2008 9:59 AM: ZeStuff just
came out with some VG
CatsHats!
Keep your head warm, fend off the sun, and tell
your hair, "NOT TODAY HAIR, today is hat
day."
Will to draw right now
is zero moving and on to negative numbers.
Two weekends of cons has totally drained
me. I never charge for sketches, NEVER.
I mean you come all that way to see me so
it's the LEAST I can do. So it ends up being
hundreds of drawings in one weekend... For
two weekends. Fries me a bit. Plus I NEED
to get my taxes done for this year ... now.
Self income means it's going to take some
time to do. </Excuses, whining> ....
IN SUMMATION. Just gonna take a break this
week.
Welp. New Adventure
Log. People always ask when this thing
is updated. It's tied into the News letter
so it updates when that does. This comic
was actually done two weeks ago.
If you guys want to send in any guest comics
or art to have up here (while I'm being
a slacker) feel free to
send it in. I'll be updating the fan
section with stuff I've recived over the
past few months. Since it is in need of
update as well.
Awkward
Zombie not akward zombie. If not for
spell check I'd be legally retarded. Even
with it's by a hair. BUT ANYWAY! Thank you
everyone for coming out to Fanime.
Total blast and glad to hear from everyone.
I almost didn't do cons this year too. Which
would have been a shame.
Quick little wrap up for Fanime;
Met up with Three
Panel Soul whom I didn't know was going
to be there cause I'm a douchebag like that.
Nice little surprise and I'm totally inking
that drawing ya gave me. Speaking of sketches
Cassey got us a Sketch from the Gurren
Lagann guys, Bryce picked us THE Gurren
Lagann, and Shawn
happened to notice the GL guys were RIGHT
BEHIND. So we got our book signed too. A
GOOD DAY. Thanks to all.
Now
we've got another con this weekend (May
30th - June 1st) in Dallas, A-Kon
19! Should be down by the main entrance
again. Now we won't be there on Sunday so
you'll have to catch us on either Friday
or Saturday. See ya there!
Oh yeah, new Super
Effective. Back to back cons (while
fun) kill my update schedule more than usual.
But I've got the next already made so it's
all good. SLACKER OUT.
Just got back... SO TIRED.
Talk about stuff later. For now a super
HUGE thanks to Awkward
Zombie for this
guest comic for while I was gone. Totally
hilarious.
Edit: Removed link image as we are wanging
thier bandwidth. Our bad.
Last pokemon
comic I swear! This one really just
didn't fit into super effective. Hell this
one almost didn't fit period. I mixed up
silver/gold pokemon with red/blue and had
to drastically edit this comic before it
was uploaded. In anycase it came from a
conversation with my better half. Feel so
old that I can have this conversation at
ALL.
Looks like I'll be having it a while longer
too. Truth be told I loved pokemon red
but Silver was always my favorite. Two whole
maps of fun. Here's somthing fun; See how
many of the classics you can name.
Also..
THIS SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! Actually
all weekend (May 23 - 25, not going Monday)
we'll be at Fanime
Con in San Jose, California. Per
usually we'll be down there with Shawn
and Dave
because thosetwo
are inseparably... If you know what I mean.
(in the bum) Come on down and say hi!
Oh and Tokyo pop did a quick
interview while at NY Comicon the other
week. Man I hate seeing myself talk. I've
actually done TV interviews before but never
posted it here just because of that. Necrotic
I know. However we both love the
Toykopop.
Dramacon
is a personal fav.
This
has me totally jazzed. I remeber seeing
Namco X Capcom months ago and going "Why
the fuck do we not have this?". Hats
off to them for making it happen.
Speaking of things that make me giddy
as a school girl. Eternal
Darkness was one of my favorite games
of all time. This isn't a concrete THIS
WILL HAPPEN but it's nice to hope. Last
bit of unknown rumor news there's this.
New Reboot series? HOPE MY FRIENDS. Hope.
To say a lot of my time is spent in GTA4
is an uderstatement. I'll letcha know in
full a bit later but for now this game is
pure win. Here's
a neat little utility. It's a map of
the city which is very useful since it's
quite big. (That's what she said)
Lastly a quick thanks to the advertisers
on the site. This
caught my attention. I'll be sure to
pick it up when it comes out and letcha
know how it is. As I loves me the One Piece.
Also Mass
Effect PC. Holy crap so getting it.
I dunno, I just prefer the mouse to the
joystick for these things.
Lets talk the vidjagames.
Lots out in the past little while and I've
been neglecting to go over them. So here's
some quick thoughts on a few games.
No
More Heroes. This is one of those games
where you can over look a lot of it's short
comings just on game presentation. It's
a subtle humor that I just love and to boot
it's fun to play. Don't think you'll be
sitting down for this game either. VERY
active. GTA part is shit but it doesn't
make up much of the gameplay. Try it out
as it might not be for everyone.
Rainbow
6 Vegas 2. You're basically paying for
a run button in this game which I'd gladly
do. The first one kept me and people I played
with online busy for quite some time. None
of the fun was lost in this sequel. You've
got a beefed up story mode with AI that
actually works well and all the multiplayer
modes from the first with new maps. If you
loved the first you've got to pick this
up.
Mario
Kart Wii. I can't be more apathetic
over this title. Single player is really
quite a pain to play and you NEED to do
it in order to unlock new tracks and characters.
They've given the CPU opponents full access
to the items which is fun for people...
not AIs. It means you're going to get randomly
hit with any number of lame power ups seconds
before the finish line. The new catch is
that this game controls steering with the
Wiimote. Don't. It's shit and you're better
off with a gamecube controller. This title
is a rental at best.
Army
of Two. Didn't get to sit down with
this one as much as I'd like to but it was
a lot of fun. IF... and that's a BIG if.
IF you have someone to play this game with.
You really can't count on the AI for this
game at all. However if you're playing this
with someone then you can actually implement
tactics rather well. Pick it up if you've
an army of two.
Edit Monday, May 5, 2008 8:20 AM: Iron
Man was fucking amazing.
Even if you don't like comics I urge you
to go see it. If only for Robert Downey
Jr's HILARIOUS performance. The new
hulk movie still looks like shit though.
At least there's Batman to look forward
to.
Been a while since I talked
about any games. So here goes! We've got
Mario
Kart and GTA
IV launching this week. What in the
hell was Nintendo thinking?
This is one of the last big games for the
Wii in the foreseeable future. I mean unless
they pull a miracle out of thier ass at
E3 or Spaceworld. Which they may well do.
I mean this IS Nintendo. Good chance we'll
see a new DS very soon. But it's looking
like a slow
year for the Wii and a great time for
the PS3 to play some catch up. With
HD DVD dead in the water this may be
PS3s year to shine.
Now Mario Kart is by no means bad. Shawn
brought over his copy at NY Comicon and
I enjoyed what I played. Feels much more
like Mario Kart DS which is a very good
thing. Here's the thing though... We've
seen like3Karts
in the past 5 years. It's starting to feel
same old same old. This one like DS is online
but, like Brawl it's really a half assed
attempt.
Anyway I digress. I am looking forward to
playing both titles. However with 15
online modes WITH VOICE and freeroaming
deathmatches. I think one may be played
more than the other. Just a hunch.
Nintendo would have done well to hold on
to Mario Kart Wii until Summer and make
it shine. Because when competing directly
with GTA IV... this is mediocre attempt.
OMG So Tired. Got back
last night. New York was AWESOME. SO going
back next year. Thanks to everyone who came
by! You guys all rock so much! Thanks to
Shawn and Dave and Kari and EVERYONE else
who helped out. Super fun weekend!
Oh
yeah. Got so many Pokemon comic ideas
poolin' around my head. So I decided to
do a new Pokemon based comic series. SUPER
EFFECTIVE! As inspired by this
one. It'll Follow Red from start to
end in the first Pokemon game Fire
Red. Should be easy to update. Expect to
see it Weekly along side VG Cats.
Main comic probably won't be done until
Monday though. Long one!
Deleted the Sonic comic.
It never really was intended for upload.
It was more "Oh hey I'm not sure when
I'll have power again. So I better upload
SOMETHING." So yeah, took it down.
This
comic is more of filler than anything.
Boarding went long on another comic so I
did this one instead. Oh well. NY
COMIC CON
THIS WEEK. Hope
to see you there. (Again booth #1822
across from DC)
Well tornados are pretty
awesome eh? Yeah... No. Got
hit by one on Wednesday and it tore
through our neighborhood. Place around us
got hit pretty bad but don't worry, by the
grace of God we're just fine. Only thing
is we've got no power at the moment. So
bare with me for updates. As I'm typing
this up at a Starbucks.
Thankfully I
had a comic saved to my DA account.
Wasn't going to release it but not much
of a choice now. Here's hoping everything
gets fixed soon.
Edit 4/12/08 2:05 PM: Everything is back
up and running. Power came back yesterday
and Internet today. Power outage knocked
out vista again but I'm so use to getting
it back up and running it's not a big deal
at all. Oh and to mass answer some email,
yes I am Canadian. Staying state side temporarily
for the next few months. Which is why I'm
able to do cons again. Thanks everyone!
Sorry
I'm a little late on this week's comic.
Been really preoccupied with other things.
One of which I'll be doing Cons again this
year. Yeeeeey. One con coming up really
soon is NewYork
Comicon (April 18-20)! It'll be my first
time in the big apple so be gentle. I'll
be hitting up the place with thesejerks.
I'll have posters, shirts, and a brand new
shirt design. So come on by and enjoy the
show! (We're booth #1822)
In the mean time I whipped this little thing
up for ya. I freaking love that song.
Needless to say I'm really loving this tablet.
Hope I can do more animations in the future
as this one was really a test more than
anything. New comic up soon!
Thought I'd have a little
fun for April
fools. Lots of sites joining in for
April Fools this year too. I'll update this
list as I (or you guys) find them.
Also
this infuriates me to no end. Considering
how much I love going back to play the classics.
CLASSICS. Meaning you can appreciate them
for what they were and the memories you
had while playing. I mean it's not like
virtual console or xbox live arcade are
doing well. OH WAIT. Urgh. Stupid people.
Edit 3/24/08 10:37 PM : Comic
is up. And yeah, after
10 years team rocket is still trying to
get pikachu. You'd think the writers would
have shot themselves by now. Ah well. I am
aware of the copy & paste. Forgot to draw
a figure but I've been up for like 30 hours.
SO yeah... It's not noticeable anyhoo.
One thing I've very glad for now that this
comic is entirely
digital, is the detail. Previously I was
never allowed to go
wild with my expression due to the vectoring
process. Smaller detail would be totally lost.
So lines were drawn larger
and simpler
to compensate. Now everything is what I draw
is what
I get since it's penciled, Inked, and
coloured in Photoshop.
So I'm finally able to do what I want visually
with the comic. Hope ya enjoy!
Also...
VG Cats Gamer pics are online for Xbox
Live. You can grab them under "Blind
Ferret Gamer Pics" for 200 MS Points.
Really excited to have these online. I can
finally stop using my camera to take pictures.
Happy gaming!
No comic
today, just a bit
of an art break this week. Going to use
the extra time to actually get a comic up
this Monday. Doing a comic half way
through the week isn't fun. Anyway. It's a
parody of The Beatles album cover, Abbey
Road. Naturally this is the road to the
Elite Four. Didn't come out exactly the way
I wanted but I've
got a brand new tablet and this is how
you get use to it. For better or worse.
So far I'm really enjoying this tablet. Up
until now I've been using a
Tablet PC which has seen better days.
The PC is huge, bulky, and gets VERY hot.
The 12wx however is super slim, light, and
barely gets warm. While it IS expensive it's
not holy
shit expensive. It's also not as portable
as the Tablet PC since you're tethered to
a computer. It's benefits really do out weight
the cons however.
If you're thinking of getting it I highly
recommend doing so from Cool
Graphic Stuff and NOT from wacom direct.
Wacom fuckers double charged my credit card
due to a website error. Now on the other hand
these
guys are right up there with Play
Asia for awesome customer service. Totally
rad.
Yeah... Smash
Bros came out on a Sunday... I AM WEAK.
So started work on
this comic on Wednesday. Still it's an
update for this week. Since I haven't missed
a weekly update for a few weeks now. Oh, I
did get a new Adventure
Log done too. Slacker AWAY!
Edit 03/14/2008 5:13 AM: The more I look
at it the more I hate it. Deleting this week's
comic. Catch a new on on Monday. Sorry, this
one was rushed just so I'd have a comic this
week and that was a mistake. OH WELL. THREE
DAYS WASTED. NO BIGGIE. -_-;
I've always
loved characters who have to express themselves
through actions rather than words. So naturally
I love the Pyro. I am aware of some of
the inaccuracies of this strip to the game
but hey. It's entertainment folks. :D
Well Smash Brothers comes out in less than
a week and already it's been leaked all over
the place. Notable all the voice work. You
can check that out here,
here,
and here.
Well... They're all horrible with the exception
of Vader Knight. Pokemon trainer is going
to be the worst to play against...
GO SQUIRTLE! HANG IN THERE CHARIZZARD! YOU
CAN DO IT IVYSUAR! GO CHARRIZARD! Etc...
No really that's going to be so much "Fun"
to listen too. At least Snake's codec calls
are hilarious. Check those out here,
here,
here,
and here.
Edit Tuesday, 3/4/08 5:28 PM : Well if you
havn't heard about it from like... EVERYONE.
Gary
Gygax died. I never was much into DnD.
Still, I wouldn't have made one
of my favorite comics if it weren't for
him. So that's something.
Urgh... SO sick. Wanted
to get another comic up but I just don't
have it in me. So
here's a one panel comic. Been on a
Monday streak so I didn't want to miss one.
Anyway got
the idea while I was doing the 100
Kirbies. Honestly, just looks like he
ripped
it off his head. I'll get something
more up later this week I hope. I don't
want to see Kirby again for a WHILE. Bleargh...
On top of that Vista crashed again. I swear.
It's like a weekly even for this OS. At
least I've gotten really good at
recovering it. SIGH.</emo> Oh yeah,
we got a Ferret.
:) Name is Yuki and he is smelly. SO SMELLY.
But cute.
Edit: Thanks for the smell tips everyone
(never thought I'd have to type that...
again). His scent glands have been removed
and his two berries. He gets a bath every
so often but not enough to dry out his skin.
Ferrets are just smelly but, knew this before
we got him. Thanks again for your concern!
:)
Then there's SNK
releasing the same game... over and
over. I'll still play it. Because I'm a
whore. Just as I still love Dynasty Warriors.
Speaking of which... They've
got a new one out! I'll letcha know
how that is when I've got more time with
it. For now it's looking like a rental.
And two more random videos. Kirby
Zetsubou and the Sims
Real Life. That dude needs to shave
his teenage stash.. like pronto.
Been working on this
one on and off for a few weeks now.
Now I know they're not actually kirby "hats"
but I wanted to have some fun with it. Decided
since it took so long I'd get it up here
as some filler. Should have a normal comic
up in a day or two. For now enjoy 100
kirbies! (Bored? See how many you can
guess without looking at the legend. GL!)
Edit 2/18/08 1:32 PM : A lot of avatar
requests for a version without the numbers
on 'em. Here
ya go!
Edit 2/20/08 3:58 PM : Been getting an overwhelming
number of requests for posters. We'll try
and have those ready in a week or two. For
now if you feel like making your own Kirbies
here's the template. Sky's the limit!
Okay when I meant news post tomorrow I actually
meant news post next WEEK. But anyway I
should have some new valentines day cards
up a bit later. I just got my PC up and
running this week after 2 months of downtime.
So naturally this is time for Vista to crash
beyond repair. Seriously, this is like the
shittest OS I've ever used. Never
get it. Regardless the cards were delayed
a bit.Edit: All done! Did three
new ones this year. Hope ya like 'em.
Anyway comic
this week was inspired by Nintendo's
new magazine. Girl gaming monthly featuring
cooking mama and pink stuff! That's what
you girls do right? I heard they're voting
now... scandalous. I could never
get into cooking mama though. I don't like
pretending to do something I'm so bad at.
Kinda like Harvest
moon. Plants fear me.
Did my sporadic update of the
fan art too. Sorry for the delay. This
one was just awesome.
Okay I got this from a totally reliable
source that this
is totally real. It's the final (AND
REALZ) roster for Smash
Brothers Brawl. This list has totally
blown me away. I'm blewed. Never in my wildest
dreams did I think they'd use my characters.
Jesus is an interesting choice for a character
though. We'll have to see what his final
smash move will be. Can't wait to play!
I GUESS THIS ONE WAS A FAKE. Huurrr....
Edit 01/27/08 4:32 AM : Only a joke
(DUR). Just saying if I
can make this then anyone one can make
that. Brawl is almost out in Japan.
So we'll know the REAL roster REALLY soon.
Also random smash bros video of awesome,
Kirby
sings!
Edit
01/29/08 5:35 AM : Well speak of the
devil. Tons of smash bros stuff leaking
today. I've got a few of the screen shots
on
my flickr account. Oh and SPOILER
WARNING. As there are many
secret characters in there. Really it's
like 3 weeks of dojo
updates at once.
Also
the intro to brawl is out too. (Thanks
krud!)
Youtube (spoiler)
and gametrailers have also a frenzy of videos.
Searching around is advisable if you're
hungry for info. Uploading more photos randomly
as they come or until I fall asleep. (Or
finish a comic...)
Edit 01/29/08 9:55 AM : Oh hey Brawl
Central is back up with all the
spoilers in one place. I'm just going
to be sitting here and hold out for Mewtwo.
Greetings true believers!
Well I think it's ironic that a comic about
me not updating took place on a Tuesday.
Man though... So it turns out Jigglypuff
and Ness ARE in Brawl. It was leaked
AS
I WAS MAKING THIS COMIC. Uploaded it
to my DA account to show a time stamp when
mine was made. >_> Also uploaded
what a comic looks like as it's being drawn.
Just a little behind the scenes kinda thing
to show how much drawing does go into this.
Now I meant to talk about Assassins
Creed last week. This game has received
a lot of flak online for some pretty dumb
reasons. I enjoyed it though, a lot. The
story switching between the past and future
is kinda silly but it works. Everything
else is just awesome. One of the best things
about it is the world it creates. VERY populated.
Great game where I can play it now and then
and really enjoy myself. Avoids it getting
repetitive too. Which is it's only real
flaw. If you've got a 360 do pick it up.
Also the Sumo
Omni Chair has become a permanent fixture
in my office. Certainly the oddest thing
I've reviewed. This is one BIG chair. Very
sturdy too. Getting a rip into this chair
would be a feat. You'd really have to try
and break it. Great for crashing on when
you're tired and zoning out. Only problem
I have is the price but, it's there for
the quality. If you need one, by
all means. :)
Also building a new PC as Bugsy Killed my
last one a little over a month ago. Because
I didn't WANT it plugged into the wall or
the hard drive working. No. Never.
Damn cat... So if the colour looks a little
off in the newer comics...That's why.
UPDATE TO FOLLOW AFTER SLEEP.
Sweet sleep.... New
comic. Basically I'm going to be putting
out new VGC comics while also doing this
Christmas arc on the side. I really wish
I had the time to do this in December but
whatever. Comic is a comic. : )
Forces of nature and lore
were working against me for a while. Lost
suitcases containing a power bar, lack of
Internet, and the fact that it's CHRISTMAS.
Finally though a comic is finished. Naturally
by now this little arc will run PAST christmas
but, I'm going to see it through regardless!
I'll get the pages up as quick as I can.
Here's
the first one! Also title
page.
Edit 1/9/08 5:54 AM: I really must apologize
in the delay in getting this one (PAGE
2) up. Driving an hour to upload a comic
when you don't have a car is troublesome.
Back home now though. Merry belated Christmas!
Regular updates to follow.
Christmas
card time again! We've got six cards
up for sale and ready to spread the love.
$12 buck will get you the pack and here's
the best part. ALL proceeds will be donated
to Child's
Play Charity.
So if you guys wanna snag some cool and
unique cards for Christmas and help someone
while doing so. By all means! Buy!
Also Congrats to Shawn
on his new baby! I'll stop with the fetus
rape jokes now... Maybe! :D
HOLY CHRIST ON A BUCKET
THAT TOOK A WHILE. Well
it's finally done. Flash is still such
a new medium to me but I hope by doing more
of these I get better at it. ANYHOO. When
you beat Portal
you're treated to this
song. Loved it so much I made it into
a video. It's Called "Still Alive"
by Jonathan
Coulton and no I won't send it to you.
Enjoy!
Oh and I know about the typo in the VERY
beginning staring you in the face like it's
winking at you. Man. That is going to be
a pain to fix.... Until then it'll be a
testament to my ability to typo wherever
possible.
Update impending... Urgh...
Just taking forever to do this one. Should
be good though! :D Also Kitty.
Meanwhile! Child's
Play is back up and running. Naturally
I'm biased towards Toronto
Hospital. Wouldn't be alive without
them and all. Give to whoever you want to
though, just
give.
Edit: I know everyone, their mother, and
the creepy guy down the street knows about
the Zero
Punctuation video reviews. HOWEVER.
Doesn't stop it from being a bucket
of awesome.
Got a little long winded
in my last review so lets go by a few real
quick.
Beautiful
Katamari. I actually returned this game.
I rarely do this even for the worst games.
Why? You're basically looking at Katamari
2 light edition. Graphics are better and
there's no loading in game but GOD DAMN
it's like 5 levels long. SHORT. Go pick
up Katamari
2 instead. It's cheaper and way more
fun.
Mario
Galaxy. The controls get a little getting
use to at first but give it a chance. It'll
feel perfect after an hour or two. SUPER
fun game and HIGHLY recommend picking it
up for Wii. Logically it feels like the
natural progression of Mario 64. Which is
a very good thing. Collect stars, unlock
new levels, move on. Tons of mini game stars
too which add variety. Very hard to put
this game down. <NERDRAGE> GET
IT. </NERDRAGE>
Bioshock.
Oh boy am I late on talking about this.
Had lots of fun even if it did get a bit
repetitive. Kill doods, path stops, fetch
mission, repeat. Biggest complaint is how
easy it gets towards the end when you're
maxed out on stats. I do LOVE the voice
acting though. Very well done. If you have
a 360 it's worth getting but it's not OMG
GOTA HAVE.
Edit: FUCK forgot to post
this. One
last shirt on preorder before Christmas.
Got requests after this
comic. You can save 15% if you get it
now.
Lots of games coming out this time of year.
So I though I'd wrap up a few over the holidays.
First is Naruto
: Rise of the Ninja. This game unlike
all the other Naruto games is western developed.
So we get to see a fresh take at this licensed
game. Which is always a good thing.
The good: This game looks freaking BEAUTIFUL.
It's cell shaded but also very crisp and
clear. Taking care to bring the entire village
to life. Many parts look directly from the
anime and, you'll be sure to see them as
this is a free roaming game. Get missions
that level up stats or just follow the story.
Mixed in with the RPG elements is also a
full fighting system. I love the way this
was executed. Each character has different
hand seal movement(using the two directional
pads as hands) to pull off attacks. The
attacks themselves can also be pulled off
and avoided in a unique way for each character.
It's quite refreshing from the same old
fighters.
The Bad: The controls in game are very sticky.
Often times jumping puzzles turn to frustration.
Through out the game you have clips taken
from the show, they're called Memo Clips.
They act as lives and while a neat idea
are a little intrusive to gameplay. Would
rather have seen more CG cutscenes.
Final verdict; More good than bad to be
had in this game. If you're a fan of the
show it's fun to pick up. Best story driven
Naruto game there is. However if you want
a solid Naruto fighting game I'd suggest
the
one on Gamecube or,
import the newest (Freeloader
needed).
So Portal!
Super fun game but totally short. Best part
of the game has to be the AI's voice-overs.
Towards the end it becomes a sarcastic,
vindictive, and god damned hilarious. The
puzzles presented were a whole lot of fun
too I just wish there was more of it. There
are the bonus maps but it's a little repetitive.
Gonna be trying out the rest of Orange
Box once I get it to run properly. Urgh.
This is why I play more console games than
PC. Might just break down and get it on
360 in fact.
Also a
tempting reason to get a PS3... Finally
got into the Racket and Clank Series after
picking up Going
Commando. I know I will get a PS3 at
some point but I still wouldn't mind the
price dropping a little more.
News post impending! For
now a quick wrap up of today's comic. Couldn't
decide on an ending so I used both ala BTC.
Cause I'm a hack. Also last years Halloween
Pumpkin Designs cause I haven't
made any new ones yet. MY BAD. I shall try
to.
A word about art style. You might have noticed
I switched my art style again. It's been
a mixed reaction of love and hate. Regardless
I'll always try new things with my comic.
This sketchy style however is very
time consuming. Simply because it involves
painting it rather than filling lines. So
I'll probably switch back or fine tune it.
Not saying I won't ever use it again as
I do like how it looks. But yeah, it takes
sooo much longer to do.
Hahah.
Sonic is in Brawl. So first Pit
is in Brawl and now Sonic.
Yeah. Who the man. Well not me because I
don't have a new comic up for this week.
Should have one thursday. Lates!
Edit October 15, 2007 9:29 AM - We've
got two new shirts on presale. Meaning
this could be a limited time thing AND right
now (and only now) you're saving 15%. The
first is a battle
set shirt. Available in Red and Blue
as a little inside
joke for those nerds like me. :B The
other is a Rat
Morning-Star Shirt as based on this
comic. Get 'em while they're hot! :)
Bleargh sorry bout the
short comic, not happy with it at all. Should
have time to do a better one next week.
Did try a new style for this week. Painting
it really did take longer but, it's good
to change it once and a while.
So on the subject of Halo 3. I did want
to do a comic on the excess merchandising
but
other have pretty much covered
that. I mean Christ... was all that
REALLY needed? The week leading up to Halo
3 was just annoying. That being said the
game is pretty fun ... when it's multiplayer.
It's as the other Halo games are. Fun gameplay
but it's a standard shooter. It's very run
and gun. In that you can basically just
run by most of this game if you try. Unlike
say a Rainbow Six or Gears of War where
strategy plays more of a role. However the
addition of FOUR player online/offline co-op
makes this game MUCH more enjoyable. Especially
if you're thinking of completing legendary.
Of course the strongest point is it's multiplayer.
Custom games have been expanded SIGNIFICANTLY.
Tons of options for customization and a
brand new option called forge mode. Which
lets you build and add to maps in real time.
Best of all you can share your maps with
the bungie
community and download
others. This mode will keep me playing
for MONTHS. Oh and mother fucking Zombies
is finally a gametype. FUCK YES.
As well as sharing maps you can also save
screen shots and movies within the game.
Can't wait to see what the RvB
guys are going to do with it. But yeah if
you enjoy the series by all means pick it
up. If not it's good to try it anyway. Fans
will be happy with this latest version.
I know I am.
Not dead! Just been away.
Back now so it's all good. Suppose I should
get a news post together as it's been a
while. Spent a few days drawing a comic
only to then spend a few minutes playing
Dr. Mario. This weeks's comic is the result.
On the plus side next week's comic is penciled.
Might be nice to have a buffer.
Went ahead and attended PAX on very last
minute whim. I mean I was like 2 hours from
it so it seemed silly not to. Glad I did
since it was a lot of fun. Got my butt totally
kicked by
Pheonix Wright at Smash Bros 64.
Got to try out Rock
Band which was a total blast. Very much
picking this up when it comes out. Also
a Naruto
game that might be a lot of fun. Anything
from the Prince of Persia team I'll salivate
over. Made sure to pick up Sam & Max
season one over at the tell tale booth.
As well a kick ass art book.
PA game was also somewhat playable. The
character creator at least. It's neat
to see the 3D character you create have
a 2D counterpart. Caught a demo of the game
in action and it was damned hilarious. Uwe
Boll also made
an appearance. The room promptly emptied.
In all PAX was lots of fun. IN OTHER NEWS;
I'll have the pirate flag winner in the
next news post. Thanks to everyone who entered.
Edit - September 17, 2007 1:52 PM: Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh...
After pushing 24hours with no sleep I'm
gonna take a nap. Comic has taken most of
the week. Should be up today or tomorrow.
So long... That's what she said.
Edit September 19, 2007 6:29 AM- Almost
done and WILL be up today. I never want
to see this comic again T_T
LAST EDIT- September 19, 2007 9:43 AM :
DONE.
Been a while since I did a comic where it's
them just talking.
Been meaning to have them as Dogs since
like strip 1 though.
Whee finally uploaded.
Had a bit of an internet hiatus so no way
to put it up. But it is! Thanks goes to
G-O
on this one on his awesome guest comic.
You can check out his comic
Training Wheels here and his Deviant
Art page over here. Super jelous of
his art. Awesome stuff!
Decided to stay in Seattle while I'm down
here and go to PAX
(attendee only) with Dave.
Maybe tour Nintendo and Microsoft. Shawn
needs to get down here faster... as we both
didn't bring any games. Coooooool beans.
Edit: Happy Birthday to my little brother!
Edit: After about a month of being on the
road I is back. Huzza. New
comics to come!
Going to Anime
Evolution in Vancouver
this weekend. Gonna be one of the very few
times I'll be on the west coast. Stop by
and say hi! As for the comic it'll be up
on Monday. I hope! I'll also get that pirate
flag contest winner up as soon as I can.
Lots to go through!
Going
to Otakuthon
this Saturday in Montreal. As well I'll
be doing an appearance at the ZeStuff
Store Of Saturday August 4th from 7-8pm.
For directions to the store just click
here (1367 Bergar, Laval, Quebec). Come
by and check us out! : D
Edit: THE FORTH OF AUGUST. I can't read
calendars. Or read... At all.
Edit edit: Mmmmm Filler comic. Didn't have
the time to do the one I wanted. So here's
this short one... Bleh. 7 hour drive a go-go!
Doing
a podcast tonight. I do belive it'll
be brodcast live at 10 EST. As for the comic
it should be up tonight or tomorrow. Just
been a little pressed for time. However
there's a new Adventure
Log for viewing.
Also in the newz this week. Hacker
Groups, and Maple
Story. lulz fox. Also megaman
haruhi. ALSO... The demo for Dynasty
Warriors Gundam is out on XBL. Highly
worth the download if you're a fan of either
series. Two of my favorite things packed
into one. I'll be sure to pick this game
up when it comes out and letcha know how
it is. IN GREAT DETAIL. Seriously it's fun.
News post time! Sorry last
comic made me a little sleep deprived. Anyway!
As you can tell I finally went to see the
new Transformers
movie. I wasn't going to at first but I
heard it was actually good. I was lied to!
Clearly those wanted to inflict the same
suffering on me. Clearly.
To it's credit the effects were really well
done and, it was cool seeing them fight.
Here's the problem though. That's like less
than a quarter of the movie. Most of it
is spent on the God damned humans. When
you're dealing with a franchise movie you
have to treat it as such.
Take for example the latest Ninja
Turtles movie, TMNT. Now here's a movie
that actually stars the title characters.
And you know what? It's was good! They spent
the time to developed the characters we
went and paid to go and see. The interplay
between Leo and Raph was awesome and, Cowabunga
Carl was freaking hilarious! So you
had well developed characters following
a plot relating to them and it was fantastic.
One of the misconceptions people seem to
be having in saying Transformers was good
is that they looked at it as just a movie
but, it's not. It's the fucking "Transformers".
Not "Generic Action/Drama Movie".
If I wanted to see a movie like that I'd
go see Die Hard. And I did! And that was
WAY better! The cast of people was faaaaar
too oversized. Hell they were still adding
people half way through the movie. It's
a crying shame to have a Decepticon appear
for one minute and then get killed. Again
the name of the movie is TRANSFORMERS.
They should not be side characters or just
there for special effects.
So anyway. Michael
Bay didn't create a Transformers movie.
He made an action movie with the Transformers
as side characters. Suffice it to say I
can't recommend seeing this movie. Ever.
Here's
a comic a friend of mine Steve made
in MS paint. I promised I'd post it. WHY
DID I PROMISE.
Now on a very pleasant and super awesome
note. I want to take a second and extend
my HUGE thanks to Play
Asia. When they heard that I
lost my DS and Jump
they've generously offered to replace them.
Just wow. Thank
you so much guys! Means a lot! I promise
I won't lose
this one.
Edit: Added the rant back in. There's
my opinion of it and it's not changing.
Toodles.
These have been in development for a WHILE
now, but I'm pleased to say we now have
Leo
Plushies! Just to head off the inevitable
question.. No word yet on an Aeris plushie.
These take a while to plan and produce but
we will eventually.
By
request here's that other worrms comic as
a wallpaper. 800,
1024,
1280,
1360(wide).
A note on Conventions. Cons that I will
be going to can be found on that bar there
on the right. If it's not listed there.
I'm not there. That being said I know Connecticon
will be going on this weekend. I won't be
there but I have before and know freinds
of minewill
there this year. It's a fun con to go to
if you're in the area.
The next two you can see me at will be Otakuthon
in Montreal ( August 4-5) and Anime
Evolution in Vancouver (August
17-19). The Vancouver one will be one of
my very few times I'll be West Coast. So
then or never!
Now on a personal note. In a fun bit of
karma
and stupidity I lost my DS... and 15 of
my best games. Urgh. Back to tha Phat DS
>_< I hope someone out there is enjoying
my Jump
Ultimate Stars. I hope they enjoy it
so much they forget to eat and sleep. I
guess what I'm saying is I hope they die.
Slowly.
Okay lets pickup the mood a bit. My
new kitten, Bugsy. HELL WITH CLAWS.
My poor arms "2wikkkkkkkkkk&&"<-
sorry I had to save that. He likes to make
runs at my keyboard. That's right "&"
Mother fucker can SHIFT. So much fun making
a comic today. -_- Why must the devil be
so cute?
Edit: This
is a comic I did a WHILE ago. As you can
tell by the date of the Mii. Getting a little
tired of missing Mondays. Gonna stop doing
that now. Anyway... I'd love to credit for
making that Mii but I have some weird siblings.
I'll take a picture of the genetic freak when
I'm over next. "Creator : Science"
Zanny.
Urgh...
Got back from A-Kon in less than stellar health.
As illustrated
thusly. See the thing is I normally carry
disinfectant with me to these cons. As I shake
quite a few hands, I'm a hand slut if you
will. See I think if you travel all the way
to see me it's the least
I can do. But yeah this flu just knocked
me back on my ass. Throwing up things I didn't
know I ate (penis lol). So sorry for no updates,
been too unhealthy to move.
Thanks to everyone who did come to AKon though.
Even patient
zero. Now this is going to be a link extravaganza
for everyone down there. Xero,
Shawn,
Dave,
Mookie
(who has his second book out), C&H
Guys, Squirrel
Works, Trunks,
Psyguy,
Juno,
Kris, Scott, DJ, Kari and I'm forgetting one
O_o Slip... Argh mind so dead.
Oh an update on my busted 360. Came back within
the week. It's like they're used to repairing
them. Came with one month free XBL Gold too.
So I must say their customer service is pretty
top notch. Even if thier products aren't.
Thanks to
everyone who came down to Anime North last
weekend. Thanks also to the staff and everyone
who helped out. Lost of fun. Only causality
was that I lost the pen to my tablet PC on
stage at the panel. No idea how
that happened. Anyway I'll have to replace
it... Not before another con this weekend.
You can catch me in Texas at Akon
this weekend. I'll have a new comic up on
after that. Just want to give Shawn's
(who will be there too along with Dave)
more than three days on the main page. For
now there's a new Adventure
Log. See ya there!
Plushies aren't quite ready for sale yet but
we'll have shirts and whatnot. If you're in
the Toronto Area stop on by! I have a panel
on Friday night and I'll be sitting in on
a few during the weekend. See ya there!
Also the Smash
Bros site got updated. Just basic game
info though and some new
music. Interesting to see who's contributing
and, possibly new characters.
Well it's been
a bit since I talka the vidjagames so here
goes. After the 360 died I picked up that
new elite. Probably won't keep it though.
The extra space is nice but other than HDMI
it's really not of use to me. Why did I get
one so quickly?
Halo 3 Beta of course.
Been playing it on an off since launch and
I'm fairly happy with it. In terms of gameplay
it is a step up from the last one. Graphics
not so much but you have to remember this
is BETA. So naturally it's going to look like
HD Halo 2 maps.
Mechanics is what I'm really concerned with.
Such as dual weapons. With the bumper/trigger
combo on the 360 controller picking up, reloading,
and using duals has been greatly simplified.
Left trigger and bumper for actions on the
left hand and vice versa for the right.
There are some new weapons and features as
well. "Power ups" like bubble
shields(portable shield generator) or
the power drainer (saps everyone's shields
and disables vehicles) are two non-grenade
items that you can use. As well the new grenade
I'm not too big a fan of, it's one that acts
like a pipe bomb. It'll shoot spikes every
which way and can also stick. Unfortunately
sticking is freaking tricky and if it doesn't
stick it's VERY ineffective. I'm hoping that'll
be tweaked.
I do however love all the new weapons. The
Spartan
Laser is a giant death canon you strap
to your back. Five second charge up and BOOM.
I can't wait for custom matches with only
the Laser. Gonna be so much fun. The Spiker
is the new dual weapon available. Rapid fire
and GREAT for close quarters. It's also got
a giant spike on it for melee attacks. You
also got two new giant weapons that turn you
into a lumbering beast. A detachable turret
(heavy
weapons guy) and a rapid fire missile
pod. Effective when used right.
Oh and there's a new vehicle, the
Mongoose. A faster, leaned down, two seater
version of the warthog. With the passenger
riding piggy back they can fire their weapon
in full 360. Also if you want some fun with
these? Try using them with the portable grav
lift. EVIL KNIEVEL.
I do rant a lot don't I? Well there's a lot
to go on about! Like the 'new' game types.
The old territories has been tweaked into
something that's actually fun to play. Borrowing
from the battlefield style of base capture.
One team attacks while the other defends.
As well a VIP game which is far removed from
the Counter
Strike version. Instead of the VIP's death
being the end of the round it's a point system
now. VIPs are randomly selected (one per team)
and you attack theirs while defending yours.
Most VIP kills wins. Other game types are
basically the same as the last.
Like I said. In all I'm happy with it and
can't wait for customized rounds. Picking
my copy up when it finally releases.
Oh and speaking of something that's NOT Halo.
Starcraft-fucking-two.
Fuck yes. I think I just spawned some
overlords... In my pants. Main site over
here. Also
Team Fortress video one more time because
it's hilarious.
Sorry, back.
Was out of town. I'll have some stuff up later
today.
Edit: Not dead, just occupied. Shawn
is getting somthing up for here. Meanwhile
I'm pining over a busted 360. AGAIN. Not that
there's a Beta
going on or anything. Speaking of which a
known Crackdown bug reset my character. Fun
times.
Edit edit: Bleh, you take too long Shawn.
TOO LONG I SAY. New
comic. Also Nintendo is teasing
us again.
Bah. Forgot
what a pain moving is and when they say, "Internet
activated on Thursday" it really means
"Whenever we feel like it". I still
can't believe that mover clogged
my toilet with his massive gut demons.
That was grand assault porcelain.
Anyway, filler comic up now. And yeah my guitar
does actually
look like that. Sad but true. I'll try
and get some art up this week too. As I have
a massive hard on for Death
Note that needs to be drawn. The art...
not the boner.
Edit: y
halo thar Halo 3. I do hope all the old
members of Muppet Patrol come out to play
when the Beta actually launches. You know
who you are.
Bleargh so much packing.
'Mo' like packing fudge, mirte?'. Anyway.
Gonna start back into the whole FFXI now
that I'm doing this
comic. Anyone got any good linkshells
they'd be willing to let me join? :D I'd
love me some power leveling. Gonna go
Phoenix Server for old times sake. Thanks!
Also Looks like PS3
just lost Final Fantasy. Ouch.
I'm still gonna get it the day Metal Gear
4 comes out though. I know there's going
to be functionality lost even if it's ported
to 360. The new
Katamari is porting as well. No Wii
oddly. Added to the list of GTA IV of Devil
May Cry; Sony really needs to consider price
cuts at this point. Edit: One of
the FFXIII Games is still exclusive. My
bad. Here have some Zelda
ala Theremin.
Figured
I'd beat
this joke like a dead horse. Honestly
I just wanted it for that last panel. In
truth I didn't
like 300 all that much. Great visually
but it was so lacking on any story past
the bare events. Sin City > 300. Feels
nice to be on an update schedule again.
I'll be moving this weekend but it shouldn't
effect things. Been meaning to move for
a while and finally can now that there's
nothing keeping me here. It's for the best.
Oh and the Hitler comic wasn't removed because
of why you think it was. One of those rare
times I'll do that after almost NO ONE got
the Elite Beat references. It's a shame
since it's a fun game. You can find it in
the lost
comics though.
Occasionally, if I'm staying at my parents
I'll get bored and play in MSN's 'pictochat'.
This is
the result with this
guy (yes that's
hawks turtle in the first panel). When
I say bored I mean very bored. And
wrong. Also there's this.
New
comic I'll be doing with Square
monthly.
And sweet Jesus I need to get my hands on
Paper Mario. Looks
like the humor from the last one is
back and I couldn't be happier. Freaking
hilarious. This
also came out for all of you who wanted
to see Link and Ganon kiss. Ha-ha! Erotic.
I've always loved the
old style of
Japanese art but, really don't know
what you would call it. If any of you folks
out there know what you would classify this
style as I'd love to know. Trying to
build up as much Reference material as possible
for something I'm designing.
Thanks guys for the litterally hundreds
of emails. It's "The
Great Wave" on Wood
Block printing and the pic was done
by Hokusai
Katsushika. I'll give the rest of them
a look throught tonight. Thanks again! :)
Critical lack
of planing in this one. Drew it while at my
parents without any kind of script. It really
shows. You can check out the (nsfw) cut
raws over here (nsfw). Good chance I'll
remove this one. I can't stand a bad strip
and I hate it even more when it's a bad Zelda
strip. For now hello
Kingdom Hearts 3. More info
on that here.
Me: So hey want to play some Worms?
Sarge: One sec, I'm feeding a pinata
his parents.
Me: ... wtf!
Sarge: Well I didn't kill them. Though...
I did tell a snake to kill them.
Me: ... I see.
That being said Worms
made a pretty awesome
translation to XBL. It's a game where
half the fun is watching others screw up.
Hilarity ensues. It's the classic 2D gameplay
with slightly toned down selection from Worms
Armageddon. If you've got people to play
with, get it. It's local and live play.
Just a bit
of animoo and moongoo filler this week. I
blame Wayne
entirely for me using these terms now, and
taking me to that 4chan panel. Such a weeaboo
now. Anyway on that note I've been playing
me some Jump
Ultimate stars. HO-LY crap, I love it.
Jump
Ultimate is the sequel to Jump Superstars.
Easily one of my favorite DS games and it's
done everything to improve on it. The controls
are just as tight with new features like improved
dash and ledge holding. Supermoves have all
been improved on as well. Lots of new ones
to check out. It's now the closest you're
going to get to Smash Brothers on the DS.
One HUGE improvment is how you unlock characters.
In the old one you'd assemble komas (comics)
to create characters. Slowly matching up panels
to faces. That was a pain. Now you collect
upgrades and points while playing. You use
these points to upgrade Komas and thus create
new characters. WAY simpler and makes this
far more enjoyable.
Another great addition is this thing is online.
Used to be only at cons I'd get to be able
to play this with others. Now just hope online
and play. I'd publish my code but my deck
needs SO much work. :B I'm only good at getting
my butt kicked right now.
Tons
of new
characters this time around too. One Piece
fans, Franky
is playable. The only downside to the game
that I can see is that some of the characters
got too powerful. Former level 7 characters
are now level 6 to keep up with the manga.
So you get really powerful really fast. Thankfully
to offset this you'll have stages that use
unique premade decks in substitute. So it's
never always the same. If you're a Jump fan
and like Smash Bros I HIGHLY urge you to import
this. It's region free. :D
Now with the good there's the bad. I also
got Naruto:
Shinobi Retsuden since I loved the Gamecube
version. Wish I hadn't. Slow controls, lack
luster graphics, just not fun to play. I can
understand this is the DS and there are limitations
but this is just unplayable. Moves should
never have a delay in a fighting game, ever.
Pass on this.
And while we're on a roll with the anime stuff.
We've
got a new shirt in the store. I got a
lot of requests to turn the new rat-flail
into a shirt but see, there's
already one.
So I did the next best thing and used this
old comic. Enjoy!
Sorry, some
side projects have burgled away my attention.
I'll try and get a bunch of the fancomics
I've got backlogged up and posted in the mean
time. Haven't had time to even start the comic
this week. Most sorry.
Also late on
this debacle with Sony. Who have since
kissed and made up. Rightly so, since they
are journalists and not their PR. Just
when I couldn't be more apathetic to anything
Sony they come out with Little
Big Planet. Shit. This
I want. *grabs the piggy bank*
Edit: Updated the
fan art/comics. If you see your stuff
there and want a site linked too,
lemmie know. Also non site related Brian
over at Hookie
Dookie set off to Iraq today. Just want
to wish him well, keep safe bud!
So Crackdown.
You play a super cop, hell, a super-hero cop
in a giant free-roaming city. As you progress
you level up the basic stats. Agility (leap
over buildings), strength (pick up trucks),
driving (Mother fucking Batmobile), Shooting
(uh.. Shoot gooder?), and explosives (BOOM).
Wiping out gangs and whatnot.
The problem is that this thing is far too
short. Once you've cleared out the city you'll
be left just unlocking achievements... fun.
The bosses were really uninteresting too.
Find, shoot, move on. I'm willing to bet there
will be more missions to download in the future
but that doesn't help me right now. The one
thing I was really impressed with was the
draw distance. See.. EVERYTHING.
Something this game could have used is full
on multiplayer. It does have co-op but team
killing one guy gets old. I'd like to be put
in a city that big and just brawl it out with
others. If this game were longer and had that
I'd say buy but for now, rent. Fantastic game...
just short on content.
Edit: Oh wow, didn't even know about this
fanboys
strip. Fun fact; I tried to down play
"cocks" in the last strip. "The
Smoker" was first "Cock Smoker",
as well "The Money Shot" was "Bukkake"
(that's why there's so many of them). Anyway
thank the elephant
pose for the inspiration behind mine.
No harm
intended.
If you're having
trouble viewing
the comic just refresh. I replaced the
last comic with this one. Why? I tend to from
time to time. It didn't turn out as I planned
and didn't like it. One penis joke for another.
Enjoy.
Cards! Though
I don't recomend using any of them.
Seriously. Bad idea.
Also
I've got an Xfire
chat coming up on the 21st this month.
Everyone should know what Xfire
is by now. Since it's the chat client
for online gaming. Giving out prizes and whatnot.
Should be a lot of fun.
Shawn
finally got his shirt up for sale. It's part
of a joke exchange program. That or "Hey
Scott I'm going to use your Phoenix idea for
a shirt." "Um okay, gonna use your
Kirby
idea for a comic.", and merriment was
had. In short, we're both hacks. You
can check out his
Kirby shirt over here.
Been playing me some 360 recently. Two games
I picked up are Lost
Planet and Rainbow
Six : Las Vegas. Both have decent demos
available for download if you wanna give them
a try. Along with Crackdown which is so much
fun it's unreal. It's like you're a spiderman/robocop
who can lift cars. Then you throw co-op in
there? Gold.
Now Lost
Planet really is a single player experience.
It's also a very high action game. It starts
with a giant battle and never lets up. The
only downside being is that this is
a Capcom game. Being that it'll find cheap
ways to kill you. Other than that I really
enjoyed it. Top notch graphics and controls.
It's just too bad it doesn't translate to
online play. Boils down to who can get into
a mech the first. Chrome
Hounds really did that better anyway.
Rent it if you're into the single player stuff
that's short on story and big on action.
Rainbow
Six however has a very good and bad online
experience. If you've got some people you
play with it's a lot of fun. If you don't,
you'll be begging for clan support.
Searching for a game to play is a nightmare.
Games last a long and to join in a game you've
got to be there in the lobby. Combine that
with load times before reaching the lobby
and you'll be joining games after they've
started. Frustrating.
Once you get in the game it's a ton of fun.
Co-op modes, survival, and team battles. Complete
customization of character appearance even
down to your own face. If you've got a camera
the face rendering feature is awesome to try
out. It won't do butts though... Believe
me.
Single player is okay. It's squad based with
AI that you help to control but, honestly
Gears of War did it much better in that it's
hands off. This one is very simplified to
point and move. Sometimes they'll be super
awesome and clear out a room. Others they've
both try and hide behind a lamp post. Anyway
it's a good rental to try out. If you dig
the Co-op, get it.
Oh and I forgot to mention ZeStuff
is having a sale on games. Cheap games are
always good. Also a
funny report on the whole moonanite thing
and the "press
conference". Gotta love it.
This strip
is why I love having a comic. Having the freedom
to do whatever I want with it. I can choose
to ventaboutanything,
make the worstpossiblejokes,
and even do something sad once
and a while.
I'll catch flak now and then from people but
I can't be bothered to care. I thank my fans
for the support but ask that you respect that
this is my canvas. If I don't do this once
and a while, I will get bored with it.
"OMG SCOTT THIS ISN'T FUNNY. WHAR FUNNY?!"
My canvas. Don't like? gtfo! This week I wanted
to challenge myself a bit. I recognize that
I have a long way to go artistically but,
I also know that practice is the way to do
it. So I recreated one of my favorite scenes
(Spoilers)
from Bleach.
The idea was first given to me when I was
doing sketches at a con. Leo having a ratflail
sword just worked so well. Another point of
interests is that Bleach just came out of
filler. Now I'm not encouraging downloading,
I'm just saying "Hey you know, it's there".
Bleach is actually one of the few series that
was dubbed well (Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy
Bebop). Just need Naruto to follow suit and
stop the ninja team crap.
Now why this took so long. Every panel in
this comic, every panel, has been redrawn
at least once. Leo's Bankai
form and the Rat Morning-star (build up on
the Rat
Flail) were tough. Both totally new and
had to reflect the series and the comic. Few
of the concepts
are here. Kept on trying to add head gear
(Knight, Ninja, or Skullface) but that would
mean a Hollow.
Eventually he turned into one similar to Renji's.
The Rat was then based off a Werewolf as it
had the look I wanted.
Anyway I'm all done ranting. Time for some
of that sleep I said I was gonna get. As this
one took a few all nighters. Also Wallpaper.
I am officially
giving up on drawing this weeks comic on time.
I do enjoy once an a while going crazy artistically
but damn, whoops. Time consuming. I'll put
it aside and get another one up. A shorter
comic. An easier comic.
Edit: "MO' LIKE UPDATED NEVER. MIRITE?"
Yeah, I love getting those emails. Masters
of wit. They should get those gems down on
paper. Talents are wasted emailing
me. Anyway here's
a new comic. Sleep, how I've missed you.
So hey that
new WoW
expansion is out. I hear it's got new
avatars you can chat with. Me? I could not
be more apathetic about it. I made it to level
10 in that game and was bored to tears. Not
my cup of tea by any means. Shawn wanted me
to join
his new guild. "Not now, not ever."
Sorry folks.
I have been playing a few new games. Quite
a few of them are free. I was finally bugged
enough to play Cave
Story. I'm three years late but whatever.
It's a fun game with a cute story and characters.
Then there's 1up super awesome 101
Free games for 2007. I suggest you give
it a look
through. That Full
Throttle "Movie" was pretty
neat.
Also Toyowolf posted this
in the forums. It's Click
Beat aka Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan for
the PC. The program lets you create your own
tracks with any
MP3. Little bit too time consuming for
me but I encourage you folks to try it out.
Their
site and the program (in the directory
you install it) has all the info on how.
Ha
ha wow. This guy created a suit that suppose
to be bulletproof. Yeah it looks cool but
if you wear that out you're getting shot on
principle. Not that the light on the
helmet isn't a giant target already. "I
looked at Halo the videogame", Nooo shit.
Really nailed the master Chief look I'd say.
Trojan... Yeeeah.
Been playing
me some
Elite Beat Agents. I must say I'm having
more fun than I thought I would. Some of the
songs are kinda ass but it's still a lot of
fun. It's really unfair to call this a localization
of Ouendan. Very much is a full fledge sequel
with improvement over the first one.
Notable is the ability to skip cutscenes,
better rating system, save replays, etc..
I'm not sure if you'd call this an improvement
but those
agents sure dance a lot more than the
OUS guys. It's silly to watch. I'd say at
least give this game a try if ya like rythm
games. "Canned
Heat" can suck it though.
Wait, what time is it? Adventure
time! Again! Again!
Edit: Link fixed for adventure. Never news
post before sleep.
Had a bit more time with
the Wii and finally sat down to play some
Zelda. I am enjoying it but I'm definitely
seeing some down sides to the system. For
one if you're tired and just want to relax
and play some games, you might find yourself
not wanting to play. I know I did. Lazy?
Perhaps but, if you've got a manual job
that tires you out, the last thing wanted
is more activity.
That being said this system always works
out great at parties. Multiplayer is really
where it shines and as such I see a lot
of non-single player games being developed.
Not that they won't but it'll defiantly
won't be a lot of games by yourself.
One neat feature that's avalible for download
is the browser. Little buggy but for the
most part is very easy to use. Was even
using it to watch
YouTube video's on my TV. How cool is
that?
Do you NEED to get
one right now? Nope. Zelda
is great and all but I'd say wait until
spring when more games are out. The stuff
avalible right now really doesn't have any
depth past a fun party game. Same goes for
PS3 but even more so. Wait until ANY games
are out and that price drops for that. Now
this is one way to get rid of a PS3
on eBay. Riiiiiidge Racer!
Oh lookie my
name is Dave and I'll get a Rayman
New Year's comic up too, and before
this one. WELL LA-DEE-DA. What a jerk.
Anyway the holidays are over and I won't be
doing any con traveling for a bit. So expect
a regular update schedule without all the
filler, guest comics and contests.
I finally got a chance to sit down and play
my Wii over the holidays. I was really surprised
at how many games I was playing were Ubisoft.
Rayman
really is the standout title of the bunch.
Single player is basically unlocking the party
games. Since that's where you'll be playing
it the most, with others. I think what I love
the most about this game is it's art style.
The
bunnies are the best villains ever.
Highly recommend picking it up.
Never underestimate
how crazy the holidays get. Out of 800 or
so entrees I selected around 100 good ones.
After that I narrowed it down to 30. From
there I'll make a decision for the top 25
plus the winners. Check back Wed for that.
Until then merry christmas everyone!
Edit: Here are the winners! First place goes
to Kelsey Maguire with
this Zelda comic. Second place is Timothy
Bennett with a
Final Fantasy comic. Third goes to Cory
Shenfeld with this
entry which made me lawl. I'll have the
other entries up for viewing later this week
as well as honorable mentions (disqualified
but awesome entries). Though you would have
recived an email if you Top 25'd. Thanks again
to Play-Asia
everyone who entered. : )
Also Congratulations
to Malcolm from Tulsa Oklahoma for his winning
bid. As well as his extremely generous
donation to Child's Play of $859.49 USD.
You rock hard core!
'Nother
quick update. I'm selling
some original art for Child's
Play on eBay. It's Phoenix
Wright art I did a little while ago. You'll
also get the 11x17 print of the finished work.
I always loved how this one turned out on
paper. Or if you want something right now
there's always still cards.
Best of luck!
Edit: Gonna skip the comic this week. I really
hate how it turned out and rather not release
it here. Apologies.
Gonna do some quick reviews for some of the
holiday games. Here are the first few.
Gears
of War - The best looking 360 game which
also plays well too. Single player is short
but very sweet. Hide, shoot, move forward.
Repetitive? Yep, but it never gets old due
to being so fun. Additions of online co-op
and multiplayer modes help in replay-ability.
Highly recommend.
Phantasy Star Universe - New addition
of a fleshed out single player. Too bad it's
crap. Multiplayer is where it's at. Voice
chat is such a welcome addition. Only downside
is most of the world is locked but slowly
opening. Monthy fee too. Recommend.. Sort
of. If you like the series. Otherwise pass.
Red
Steel - One word, awkward. Zooming especially.
You're going to find yourself frustrated with
the controls. Could have been a good game
but instead just falls short. True sword controls
are dumbed down to directions. Up, down, left,
right, boring. Not recomended.
I'll have more to say on Wii when I've actually
played it more. Still barely any time on it.
Regrettably. Though this
has to be the best Wii Strapever.
Also you might notice I took Ryzom down from
the contest.
My fault entirely. Hope the company gets over
this shaky patch. Until then I'll be sending
out some prints. Hoo-ra! Oh update the comic...
Check back later today.
Hey hey! We've got a contest going
right now sponsored by Play-Asia.

Have fun and remember to be creative!
Edit: Rules updated. Just to be clear, you can
re-edit the comic to as long as you want. Also
added an example comic.
Sorry about
the huge delay. Didn't get to work on
this comic until Wednesday. Large amount
of drawing and CG for three freaking
panels. Anyway I don't really think this is
a spoiler but when you beat Gears
of War you're treated to the credits,
and
a song.
Auchinawa
was a blast. Seriously guys super fun time.
Big thanks to Dave again for the hospitality
and BJ. Best blueberry jam in Scotland. Super
big thanks to everyone who came down for the
weekend... And watch me get my butt kicked
in billiards, Ouendan, Mario Kart, and pretty
much any game ever made. Think I might take
Eddie
up on his offer and visit the UK again next
year. :3
New
comic, yo. I started subscribing to G4
again. It was a free trail so why the heck
not. Now I've been watching X-Play for a few
years now. Sad to say it's a husk of what
it once was thanks to G4. Them the breaks
but whatcha gonna do. Oh, make a silly comic...
right.
In the first five minutes of playing
the Wii I nearly smashed someone's PS2. So
this site gave me a good laugh.
Wii related injuries, damages, etc..
Also Deep fried fish and chips are asking
for a heart attack. My God. So much grease.
I'm not sure I'm up for that deep fried Mars
bar now. I want to live you see.
Edit: Ha,
wow. There's devotion and then there's
stupid.
Also I got my Wii but didn't bring it with
me. Did get to play it for a bit though. Word
of advice for anyone getting games. Rent Red
Steel first. My first sit down with it was
pretty bad. I'll review it fully when I get
back. Wii Sports however is tons of fun.
I'm off to Scotland
this week for a con
and fun in the sun. They've got sun there
right? I'm sure they do. I wouldn't expect
fog or anything of that nature. That would
be crazy. Though I'll be leaving
the day the Wii launches. Taking pitty
on me, a
friend is picking mine up. Thank jebus.
So I'll be playing it sometime in December
when I get back. Until then. Up your nose
with a rubber hose.
Here's
a partail frame that got cut in the last
comic. I just went and made it a little filler
image.
Penny Arcade's Child's
Play charity site just re-launched for
the holidays. With even more hospitals than
last year. It's a great cause folks and I
urge you to help out if you can.
New
SSB:Brawl trailer. Yeeeeeeee! Glad to see
they're using the SF Command version of Fox. No
wait. What's the opposite of glad? Oh right, mortified.
There's one
level in there I can't identify with a character.
It's the one with all the statues which ALMOST
looks like Alter
Beast. Of course it just as well be another
Zelda or Pit level. Also Trogdor
being played in GH2. Too bad the guys sucks
at it.
Turns out I've got a whole 'nother page of pumpkin
pics I missed. I'll get those up later this week.
Taking a break from videogames this week for a
bit of fun for me. Went kinda nuts when drawing
this
one but, in a good way. I'll update this post
with all those pumpkins a little later. Just gonna
grab some sleep first. PEACE OUT Y'ALL.
Edit: Oh and if you make a pumpkin from the
designs feel free to send in a pic. Might
not get a chance to reply to them all but, I'll
post 'em all after.
Yeah I've heard about
Lik-Sang shutting down.
Good riddance.Play
Asia is still a whole lot better at just about
everything. So this doesn't affect me in the slightest.
Made up some designs
for you pumpkin needs. Just Cut out the black
parts.
Also holy fuck did you see the last episode of
BSG?
FANTASTIC. One of the best episodes I've seen
a long time. Love this series ever so much. Season
2.5 just came out on DVD too. There's no excuse
not to catch up and see this magnificent show.
So I've been playing
Splinter
Cell : Double Agent and it's a very mixed
bag. Single player is as great as it ever was
but multiplayer... If you liked previous versions
prepare to be very disappointed. Lets break down
what's good and bad.
The Good:
-Spies are now quicker, intuitively adjusting
to their surrounding and able to get almost anywhere.
The arm band can hack into nearly anything on
the map to your advantage. Break windows, disable
lights, and mess up the mercs.
-Mercs also have a speed boost. New abilities
include jumping over ledges with a rope, tons
of ammo, and remote controlled hover bots. As
well your light is adjustable for distance.
-The entire pace is picked up for quicker matches.
The Bad:
-The entire pace is picked up for quicker matches.
Strategy of the old Splinter Cell games is GONE.
Planing out defenses and sneaking around for holes
in those defenses is no longer an element of gameplay.
-Custom matches have been drilled down to what
they give you. No more death matches, no more
item selection, lives, or even tutor mode. Welcome
to cookie cutter land.
-Bye-bye mines.
-Mercs have ceased to be the tanks that they once
were. With item selection DRAMATICALLY cut you
don't feel as if you're defending a target. More
so just a spy with a gun.
-Co-op is a fucking joke. The story mode
of the past? Nope! Instead of working through
a mission with somone it's a multiplier battle
with computer AI. That's right, co-op is just
bot fighting. What the fuck.
Now some might like these (dumbed down) changes
if you're new to the franchise. It's very pick
up and play. However if you're a fan of the old
ones and are expecting the same... Don't count
on it. It's still fun but not in any long term
way. Again the single player is still exceptional
and, they've actually improved the ground breaking
graphics. But with little replay value (for me
anyway) this title is a rental.
Taking
a break from comics this week. I'd rather have
it done for Monday than post this Friday. It'll
give me a chance to work ahead too and not be
constantly late. : p
For now I made this from one of my favorite games
on the DS. Phoenix
Wright : Ace Attorney. Can't wait for the
sequel. Although I'm still playing the first
one. Not through difficulty of the game but just
those boring CSI bit in-between the court scenes.
I'll pick it up for five minutes and then get
distracted by shiny objects. So I've been on the
last case for like six months. Damn that
Blue Badger.
Also insane SSBM
Match. That's why Falco rocks your socks.
I guess
this could be part
2. Glad it was delayed otherwise I never would
have done it.
So Sony started their presale and then promptly
ended in around noon. This was after everything
was sold
out. Great news for Sony! Oh wait. Most stores
were caring about 5-10 consoles. WTF?! Naturally
this doesn't stop everyone from declaring
it a success. Fastest sales ever!... Due to
extreme lack of goods.
Of course you can always
get one on Ebay. Before they
shut it down anyway. Could I get a copy I'd
do the same thing. I'm an ass you see.
Personally I'm doing the same thing I did for
360. Waiting for a game I want to come out and
then I'll get the system. In this case it's MGS4.
Until then I'm saving my money for all thecountlessgamescomingoutthisseason.
As for Wii. Opening day naturally. It's mother
fucking zelda! There is one thing I'll say
for Sony. That PS2 has had one LONG shelf life.
with the PS3 just around the corner it's STILL
releasing great games. If this is any indication
of how the new one will do, who knows.
Edit: So much for holding out hope of Viewiful
Joe in Brawl. Capcom
just shut down Clover Studio. That's a shame.
I hear Okami was really good. It's still sitting
on my PS2 waiting to be played you see. But yeah
they had some great games.
I do hate
updating late but, I hate uploading a comic
I don't like more. Whenever I make a comic it
usually involves learning how to draw a new character
over and over. So I take that videogame character
then simplify it and adapt it to the cats (ears
lawl). I didn't get the look right until the last
frame I drew... SO I scrapped it and restarted.
Anyway today's is on the newly released Doom
on 360 Arcade. What's different from this
and all the other ports? It's co-op. FOUR player
co-op. Reminds me a lot of the four
swords sessions from way back. Co-op is always
a struggle to complete a level against the need
to harm your teammates. Bodies... EVERYWHERE.
Some webcomic newszszz. MacHall
is done but not "done" done. Still,
sadness. Easily the most influential webcomic
for me. Best of luck. Also a buddy of mine from
way back when I started, Jim
Zubkavich has his first book coming out. Also
I'm scum for missing White
Ninja's guest week, SCUM.
So I've had my 360
for a few months now. I must say I'm very glad
I got one. Despite that hardware failure in the
first week. Lesson learned: Keep the that brick
of a power supply cool. Still the system itself
was well worth it.
One of the best features offered is how integrated
it is with online capabilities. I download everything
now for the 360, and rent games only after I've
tried out the demo(freeeee). With such events
like TGS and X06 featuring tons of downloads.
It's an easy way to keep on top of things.
The Live Arcade is a likely glimpse at what the
Wii will be offering down the road. You can download
a bunch of older titles (for a price/points) and
some exclusives too from
the marketplace. I still need to download
Street Fighter at some point.
One of the reasons I waited on getting a 360 is
there there was an absents of games for the system
on launch. Nothing interested me. It wasn't
until I got to try out 99Nights that I wanted
to get one. A game which was really lack luster
when I finally got it but, I'll get into that
after I've played it more. There are however a
few very good titles out for it now.
Dead
Rising is by far my favorite out of all of
them. Basically you're a reporter set down in
a zombie infested mall. You're there for the 'big
scoop' so you've got to take as many pictures
as you can as well. Of course you're also allowed
to kill some zombies while you're there too. What's
there not to love about committing zombie genocide?
One of the greatest strengths of this game is
how open ended it is. It's very sand box in that
it allows you to play how you want to. I've gone
through the whole game now and fully leveled up
my character. Every level adds new moves, health,
strength, or life. Favorite move has to be disembowel.
It all comes down to PP (TEE-HEE PP.. shut up)
which is essentially experience points. Gain PP
by taking pictures, killing zombies, and rescuing
survivors. You choose how to level up.
This game is a good example of what is needed
to really enjoy the console. High Definition.
I never thought it would but, there is quite a
difference seeing the games run with and without
HD. So while not needed it is advised.
Ranted a bit too much but in all I do recommend
getting this system. While it's not innovate or
new, it is fun. Just stay away from Bomberman
Act Zero at all costs. No. Just no.
I am a whore for
most things Halo. Thanks again to my cousin for
picking me up that new graphic
novel set. It's a fun read with different
perspectives on the overall story. But anyway.
I'll
probably pick this up too. It's the new Halo
RTS game called "Halo Wars". Which fully
explains why the fan
project got shit
canned. The new
one is being developed by the guys who did
Age of
Empires. So you know this is gonna be quality.
The only thing I'm worried about is it being on
the 360. Battle for Middle Earth which is another
RTS on the 360 felt so akward. Of course this
one will be for the console first
and not a port. Here's hoping!
There, Dave. I put
the
line in. I swear it's been "I've covered
wars you know." as an answer to everything
with these
two jokers...
all month. Can't say I'm innocent though. I've
fought wars you see.
Pokemon
Snap was a RARE one of those countless pokemon
spin-off games that didn't suck. Don't give me
those eyes. I'm
still mainly! Why I benched two barrels of
pure testosterone just today. Any fan of the series
back then played this too. Admit it!
I picked it up again and can't wait to knock Mew
right in his Mew face with an apple.
And that's why I
haven't made news posts in a while. Got the new
layout up. Posting news twice is pain in the bee-hind.
ANYHOO. It's back to the center layout I use to
run with. Few things here and there are updated.
New Frappr
map too. Parts of the FAQ are but I didn't have
time to update the tutorial page yet. Hoping to
get something nice up for that.
Edit: Well it was almost smooth. The archives
went kaplodie but it's fixed now. Refreshing your
browser should clear up the irregularities.
Edit 2: If something looks weird it's probably
your cache. JUST REFRESH. Firefox doesn't like
to check for changed files.
Sorry about the lateness.
I ussually pull an all nighter to get these things
done when I'm running behind. This time I just
ran out of jucie and needed to crash. I hoped
to get another thing uploaded in time too but
oh well... Next week then.
Also played Saints
Row for about 3 hours online. *cough*
Anyway this comic is just a break from videogames.
Almost didn't cannon it with a number (210). Inspidred
by this
which is now out on DVD. The episode previews
are up on his blog. Fun stuff.
Me: Open it, open it...
Dad: What on earth are these?
Me: It's from a game.
Dad: Is that...
Me: It's a butt, they're eyes.
Dad: You made this?
Me: Uh.. yeah..
I can't belive they actually made the "Butt
for eyes" one, let alone ALL
of them.
Thanks again to the Spore
team and everyone
involved. You all rock hardcore. And thanks
mom for the pretty pictures. ;)
Today's comic comes courtesy of squad conversation
in ChromeHounds.
Spoon's a nut ... and cutlery. Anyway I tried
a new style for making the comic this week. Mainly
due to the fact it's not very organic. This way
it doesn't look like shit.
I'm back as well. Always have fun when I'm down
in Trinidad. Also got to do some snorkeling at
the reef. Both terrifying and exciting.
Thanks
again to Nix for taking care of my kitties.
As well for driving us to freaking Baltimore
for Otakon
(which was a blast). He got a speeding
ticket while driving back very sick and tired.
There's a paypal option over there to help out
if you want. About half the ticket cost raised
from what I gather.
Hey, we got a new
shirt. Many, MANY request for this one. Enjoy!
Edit: Jenovas
Witness Shirts are sold out until Sept 1st.
As well we'll be offering sizes for the ladies.
Apologies!
Also I know about the error in the latest comic.
When I was colouring it I realized he can't shot
and talk. Ah well. Just one more reason to hate
the walkie talkie. The game however is liquid
fun. Despite the annoyance.
